Key Trends
Some of the key trends captured in the rankings are:

  • IIMA and IIMC are far ahead of next set of B-schools. IIMA scored 931 marks and IIMC 856 marks out of a maximum of 1000 marks. XLRI, ranked No 3 managed to score only 779 marks. IIMB didn’t participate in the survey.
  • PGDM B-schools are amongst the best B-schools in India: In the wake of IIM Bill, concerns are being raised about the PGDM diploma offered by Private B-schools. MBA aspirants would do well to note that XLRI (#3), SPJIMR (#5), MDI (#6) and IMI New Delhi (#9), IMT Ghaziabad (#12) are all offering PGDM program and are at par with top IIMs.
  • New IIMs are rising up the charts: As the ranking table shows, IIMs in Trichy, Udaipur and Kashipur, which are not even 10 year old, are fast climbing the ladder and have gained position into Top 25 B-school of India.
  • Private University MBA Programs are ranked amongst the Best: NMIMS Mumbai, SIBM Pune and SCMHRD Pune offer MBA programs that have the agility of PGDM B-school with assurance of an ‘MBA’ degree.
  • IIT B-schools are not ranked as high as in NIRF: One of the surprises of NIRF Ranking was the top 10 positions that some of the IIT B-schools garnered in NIRF 2017. As per our rankings, which balances Input, Process and Output parameters, IIT B-schools don’t rank as high. Infact the highest ranked IIT B-school is DMS-IIT Delhi, ranked at No 23, followed by IIT Chennai’s DMS at No 27.
  • Diversity, International Accreditation and Campus Start-ups define top B-schools: All Top B-schools are taking well thought out initiatives to promote diversity in their new batches. Pursing top accreditations by AACSB and EFMD EQUIS figure high on their agenda. They are also pushing entrepreneurship in their campuses.

Ranking Highlights & Methodology
While there are many Rankings in India, MBAUniverse.com Rankings is one of India’s most respected rankings for good reason.

Since 2010, MBAUniverse.com conducts its annual B-school Ranking which is recognized as one of India’s most credible MBA ranking. For Rankings 2017-18, MINT, India’s most respected business newspaper published by Hindustan Times Group, has partnered with MBAUniverse.com to jointly conduct MINT-MBAUniverse.com B-school Ranking 2017-18.

Dr KRS Murthy, Former Director, IIM Bangalore guided us in framing the Ranking approach and parameters. Ranking comprehensively evaluates a B-school on Input (quality/profile of students admitted), Processes (teaching, learning processes adopted), Output (placements & entrepreneurship results). As a trend setter, this ranking has always used only hard-facts and data for analysis. No perception surveys or qualitative assessments, which often lacks credibility and transparency, is used.

Following Eligibility Criteria was clearly announced for participation:

  • B-school must offer an MBA/PGDM that is recognized by UGC or AICTE or any other competent Regulatory Body set up by Ministry of HRD, Government of India
  • Must offer a 2-year Full Time MBA/PGDM Program
  • A minimum of 5 batches must have graduated for the 2-year MBA/PGDM Program
  • Director/Head of Institution must be willing to endorse and accept responsibility for all data submitted

To offer complete transparency, this ranking also releases important data points covering Input, Process and Output parameters. Data and Facts for Top 30 B-schools are published on Ranking page.

MINT-MBAUniverse.com B-school ranking process was conducted in guidance of Dr KRS Murthy, the former Director of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and one of the doyens of Management Education in India.
