More than 9000 candidates have increased in CMAT 2018 during last two years making it one of the top three MBA/PGDM entrance exams at All India level.

AICTE-CMAT 2017 contains raw score Vs percentile score for each section as well as overall. The percentile is arrived at on the basis of highest marks scored but the sectional scores are also given due importance in case more candidates have scored same score to determine the percentile.

AICTE is in the process of preparing CMAT 2018 Merit List and will declare it shortly. However, one of the key trends in CMAT score Vs percentile calculation is that during last 2 years, number of candidates scoring 100 percentile in CMAT is on the rise, although they now need higher raw score to get 100 percentile.

CMAT 2018 result was declared on February 15, 2018 at 7.30PM by AICTE. Candidates are able to download their CMAT score card but even after a day of result declaration, are not able to view their position in CMAT Merit List as AICTE is yet to announce the CMAT 2018 All India Merit List or State wise Merit List.

CMAT 2017 Result Analysis & Scoring Trends
CMAT 2018, the 3rd annual CMAT exam was on the same pattern as that of last year although the exam was a little bit easier. The last year CMAT was also easier than the CMAT 2016 – the 1st Annual CMAT. CMAT 2018 result reflects the higher scoring pattern leading to lower percentile and the candidates who have scored higher marks have achieved the same level of percentile that was awarded in last year CMAT.

Around 60000 to figure in CMAT Merit List
Around 60,000 candidates appeared in CMAT 2018 and all of them irrespective of their high or low scores have found a place in CMAT merit List.

No candidate is disqualified
CMAT does not disqualify any test taker. According to AICTE “The results will rank all the candidates who appeared in the test based on their aptitude towards the management education in the order of their merit. Candidates will not be declared as eliminated from the admission process in the AICTE approved management programme.  On the contrary the aim is to facilitate the institutions to select the suitable candidates as per the rank awarded by CMAT.”

Past trends reveal that a candidate scoring -34 marks and 0 percentile was placed at the 59181 position in 2017. Similarly in 2016 a candidate with a raw score of -40 marks and with 0 percentile was placed at the rank # 55084.

This is unique about CMAT exam as all the candidates who appeared in CMAT 2018 and have scored even the negative marks have found a place in the merit list. The candidate can now explore admission possibilities on the basis of his/her scores in different B schools.

Higher marks leading to low percentile
The candidates who appeared in CMAT 2018 have reported that they have scored comparatively lower percentile at higher marks as against last year CMAT Merit List. Now they are worried that their position in CMAT 2018 merit list would go down.

In fact, it does not impact your admission chances. Earlier, the higher position in CMAT Merit was awarded at lower marks, now lower rank is awarded at a higher score. The scoring pattern Vs percentile score depends upon the difficulty level of the CMAT exam and number of candidates appeared in the exam.

There are many MBA colleges also who consider only marks while others consider percentile scores. In either case MBA admission chances would remain the same as the corresponding percentile to CMAT marks will only reflect that there are higher or lower number of candidates have appeared in the exam and higher marks have been awarded due to low difficulty level of the CMAT question paper.

CMAT 2018 Toppers in Merit List
There are around 60000 candidates in CMAT 2018 who appeared in the exam. The details and number of CMAT toppers with 100 percentile is yet to be announced by AICTE. However, going by the past trends and low difficulty level in CMAT 2018 exam it is expected that there would be more number of toppers with high score.

During the last two years the scoring trends of the candidates who got 100 percentile are as below:

CMAT year
Name of the 100 percentiler
Total marks scored out of 400
Percentile awarded
CMAT 2018
AICTE to announce soon
AICTE to declare

350
100
2017
Lagnajit Das
329
100
2016

The pattern reveals that AICTE has awarded higher marks as compared to last year and has increased the hope of admission to MBA programmes in different MBA colleges. However, due to an easy CMAT 2018 higher raw marks may be required to achieve the last year CMAT percentile level.

There are 2 candidates who have scored 100 percentile with a gap of 21 marks between them in last year CMAT.

Top B-schools to consider CMAT score with other parameters for MBA admission

Since there are many good MBA colleges who accept CMAT raw scores and in accordance with their admission policy, they waive the requirement of high CMAT percentile for admission to 2018 -20 batch, if the candidates have good academics, work experience, are achievers in extra-curricular activities among other parameters. The admission process in many top B-schools like Great Lakes, IFMR, BIMTECH, K J Somaiya are open and if not applied earlier, the admission opportunity can be explored without any further delay.
