Part-4: Reading comprehension
You may find 8 to 10 small RC passages in CMAT. But unlike CAT/XAT, where multiple questions follow one RC passage, one question per passage is asked in CMAT and that question is also of reasoning type.
Read the short passage below and answer the question
Care should be taken when submitting manuscripts to book publishers. A suitable publisher should be chosen, by a study of his list of publications or an examination in the bookshops of the type of books in which he specializes. It is a waste of time and money to send the typescript of a novel to a publisher who publishes no fiction, or poetry to one who publishes no verse, though all too often this is done. A preliminary letter is appreciated by most publishers, and this should outline the nature and extent of the typescript and enquire whether the publisher would be prepared to read it (writers have been known to send out such letters of enquiry in duplicated form, an approach not calculated to stimulate a publishers interest). It is desirable to enclose the cost of return postage when submitting the typescript and finally it must be understood that although every reasonable care is taken of material in the Publishers possession, responsibility cannot be accepted for any loss or damage thereto.
Authors are strongly advised not to pay for the publication of their work. If a MS. is worth publishing, a reputable publisher will undertake its publication at his own expense, except possibly for works of an academic nature.
Q.7. The author of the passage assumes that care in submitting the manuscript to the publisher for publication of the book needs to be taken due to which of the following reason
A. The publisher will stick to his line of publication only. B. The publisher who does not publish the other books may not understand the ingredients and pattern of publication. C. Publisher will not devote time to the Editing and reading the material which is not of its line of publication. D. Any publisher, not publishing the stuff of other type will not be able to do justice with the manuscript.
Section 2: Quantitative aptitude & data interpretation The topics from which most of the questions appear in quant are arithmetic (ratios, mixtures, work, averages, profit & loss, percentage and counting principles. A few questions on permutation combination, geometry and algebra do also appear in the test.
Q.8. Jaya went to a fruit market with certain amount of money. With this money she can buy either 40 peaches or 30 apples. She retains 15% of the money for her auto fare. If she buys 14 peaches, then the number of apples she can buy is:-

A. 48 B.24 C. 34 D.12
Q.10. The students in a class take either English course or Mathematics course or both. Twenty five boys take English and twenty eight girls take mathematics. Twenty girls take only English and thirty boys take only Mathematics. Three girls take both subjects. How many students are there in the class? A. 103 B.97 C. 100 D. Indeterminate
Section-3: Logical Reasoning

Important tips for CMAT Feb 2014
There are 180 minutes to solve 100 questions and this can be considered sufficient time to answer the questions. If you know the answers, attempt maximum number of questions on General awareness.
Every question carries equal marks. Any question that seems more difficult and time consuming may be taken up later, instead of wasting time on it in the very first round.
Since there is negative marking of one fourth, avoid the confusion. CMAT provides the facility of navigating through the entire test paper and answer options from any section. In the first attempt of solving the paper, focus on all the sections and solve as many questions as possible.
Remember that questions from all the sections are answered. Manage the time and be balanced. In case you answer three sections and leave one section, you may not qualify for final admission round despite scoring high. So take note of that.
