CAT 2016 exam on December 4 is the mandatory qualifying entrance exam for MBA/PGDM course 2017-19 not only for all the 20 IIMs but also for hundreds of other top B-schools in the country and prominent among them are FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR Mumbai, IMI New Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, BIMTECH Greater Noida, NITIE Mumbai, TAPMI Manipal, JBIMS Mumbai, K J Somaiya Mumbai, MICA Ahmedabad, XIM Bhubaneshwar, Great Lakes Chennai, LIBA Chennai, GIM Goa, LBSIM New Delhi among others.

The basic difference that lies in the admission criteria of the top B-schools is their actual cut-off and threshold qualifying scores in CAT 2016 at the 1st stage shortlisting. Although the qualifying CAT 2016 scores as announced by top IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM  Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Indore, FMS Delhi are not very high but the actual CAT 2016 score cut offs in these B-schools could go much higher in CAT 2016 at the 1st stage shortlisting.

You cannot expect to be shortlisted by IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow at the same percentile score in CAT 2016 as applied for IIM Nagpur, IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Bodhgaya, IIM Sirmaur or IIM Jammu although the Admission notification for these IIMs has same qualifying CAT 2016 percentile in the shortlisting process and in certain cases the top rated oldest IIMs require even lower CAT 2016 percentile to qualify for 1st stage shortlisting than the new IIMs who are yet to prove their mettle in the management education arena.
