XLRI has released the XAT 2019 Mock Test of 30 minute duration introducing number of changes in the actual XAT 2019 exam pattern. XAT 2019 exam is just 4 days away and will be held on January 6, 2019 in a single session from 10AM to 1 PM. In the instructions part preceding the XAT Mock Test, XLRI has shared, ‘Instructions are given as per the actual exam.’

20 Questions in XAT Mock: Practice Well
To familiarise yourself with actual XAT exam pattern 2019 and navigation tools to be used on the actual XAT exam day, you should practice with these questions in XAT Mock test. The XAT Mock Test Online is Free and can be attempted as many times as you wish. The time duration to complete the XAT Mock Test 2019 Online is 30 minutes which is sufficient to complete the Mock and assess your performance.

Negative Marking in XAT Mock: Don’t Get Confused
There is no need to panic while spotting the negative marking ratio of 1/3 on the right hand side of each question in the XAT Mock Test. The correct negative marking percentage deduction is ¼ as shared by XLRI clearly in the instructions part.

Maximum mark awarded for each correct answer  is 1 and the negative marking for each wrong answer is 0.25 (1/4) and not 0.33 (1/3).

Actual XAT Pattern Changed Again! Reflects XAT Mock
XAT 2019 Mock Test released by XLRI has shared number of changes in XAT 2019 exam pattern. Following are the 5 key changes introduced in XAT 2019 computer based test just 4 days before the exam date:

XLRI has introduced number of changes in XAT 2019 exam. The key changes have also been released with XAT Mock test 2019 as under:

  1. Fewer Questions in XAT 2019

While the XAT Mock Test Online has only 20 questions, actual XAT 2019 exam is divided in  two parts with 99 questions of MCQ type. Total number of questions in XAT 2019 have been reduced to 99 instead of 100 as appeared last year.

Despite being computer based test, XAT 2019 which was earlier proposed not to be divided in parts, has again been separated in two parts as under:

Important: Candidate will be allowed to go to Part 2 in XAT 2019 after completing the time duration of Part 1

  1. Penalty For Unattempted Questions Increased

While the negative marking for every wrong answer is 0.25 Mark in XAT 2019, the Negative marking for every unattempted question beyond 8 questions has gone upto 0.10 mark per unattempted question in the exam.

However, there is No Negative Marking for General Knowledge section in Part 2 of XAT 2019

  1. NAT Questions Introduced 

A new type of Numerical Answer Type Question (NAT Questions) has been introduced for the first time in XAT 2019. Procedure for answering a numerical answer type (NAT) question is to enter a numerical answer by making use of virtual numeric keypad that appears below the question. Step-wise procedure to answer the question is as under:

  • To enter a numerical answer, use the virtual numeric keypad that appears below the question
  • A fractional number in the decimal notation (e.g. -0.3 or -.3) can be entered as an answer with or without '0' before the decimal point.
  • To clear the answer, click on the Clear Response button.
  1. Essay Writing Test Scrapped

One of the key changes in XAT 2019 exam is the removal of subjective Essay Writing Test due to which the overall time duration of XAT 2019 has been reduced to three hours from three and half hours.

There will not be the subjective Essay Writing Test in XAT 2019. The test used to consume more time as XLRI considered essay writing test very important in its admission process. Even after switching to the computerised format in 2018, XLRI continued with the Essay Writing Test in XAT. This is the first time in the history of XAT exam, that there would not be Essay Writing Test in XAT 2019 exam and the candidates can focus primarily to crack the core three sections of XAT exam.

Summary of changes in XAT 2019

  • XAT 2019 Exam is of 3 hours i.e. 180 minutes duration.
  • Visually impaired candidates with scribe to get additional 25 minutes only for Part 1.
  • Exam Timing: 10:00 AM to 01:00 PM on January 6, 2019
  • The Total Number of Questions for the Exam is: 99 (74 + 25)
  • Marks for every correct answer : 1
  • Negative marking for every wrong answer : 0.25
  • Negative marking for every unattempted question beyond 8 unattempted questions : 0.10
  • Negative marking does not apply for General Knowledge
  • The computer based exam will be only in English
  • All the MCQ type questions include five options with one correct option
  • NAT questions introduced
  • No Essay Writing Test in XAT 2019
  • The Question Paper consists of two time bound parts

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2019 exam will be conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of XAMI from 10AM to 1.00PM in a single session on January 6, 2019. XAT 2019 is the second computer based test in the 60+ years history of XAT. Till 2017 XAT Exam Pattern remained a Paper Based Test.
