Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is the gateway to more than 600 MBA/PGDM colleges in India including 300+ MBA colleges in Maharashtra. There are four Management Aptitude Tests (MAT) exams spread over a time interval of 3-4 months. Each MAT exam cycle consists of minimum two MAT exams in the same month in paper based and computer based pattern. Till May 2019 AIMA conducted two paper based tests and one computer based test, however, the combination was changed to one paper based and one computer based test in September MAT 2019 exam. It is expected that the December MAT exam 2019 may again have three MAT exams in same month.

 

All India Management Association (AIMA) conducts Management Aptitude Test (MAT) four times in a year. The four MAT exams are scheduled in the months of February, May, September and December. Except the December MAT, all the MAT exams lead for admission to MBA in the exam year in different parts of the country.

 

MAT Exam in December 2019
The MAT exam for MBA admission 2020 is scheduled on December 8 as paper based test and on December 14, 2019 as computer based test. The date for phase two paper based MAT exam has not been announced by AIMA.

 

MAT Exam in September
Reversing the order of MAT exams in September 2019, AIMA conducted the first MAT Exam in September 2019 as computer based test on September 17 and then paper based exam on September 21, 2019. There was no phase-2 MAT exam in September.

Each MAT 2019 with 1 or 2 Paper Based Exams
MAT exams will be held both as paper based as well as computer based test. AIMA conducted two paper based MAT exams and one computer based test in the same month till May MAT 2019. While the phase-1 paper based MAT 2019 was conducted separately, the phase-2 paper based MAT can be conducted along with the computer based MAT exam or on a separate date.

 

In September 2019, only two MAT exams were conducted – one paper based and one computer based.

 

MAT Exam: Standardized Test
Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a standardised test being administered since 1988 to facilitate B-Schools to screen candidates for admission to MBA and allied programmes. Govt. of India, Ministry of HRD approved MAT as a national level test in 2003. Any B-School - national or international - can consider MAT Score as the admission criteria based on its Score Cards issued to the candidates.

More than 600 institutes offer MBA admission with MAT cut offs on the basis of MAT February, MAT May exam scores. The MAT September and MAT December exam scores lead to forthcoming academic session MBA admission.   

 

MAT Exam Registration
MAT Exam Registration process for each MAT exam starts immediately after the preceding MAT exam is conducted. While the MAT February, May and September exams are over and their results have been declared, following are the MAT registration dates for December MAT exam 2019:

MAT Exam Application Process 
The MAT exam application process for paper based test and computer based tests is online only. AIMA has discontinued the offline application facility for MAT exam, so you have to apply for MAT exam online only  

 

MAT Exam Pattern
MAT Exam Question paper composition & Scoring pattern is slightly different from other national level MBA entrance exams. MAT test paper has a time duration of 2½ hours. The MAT exam pattern prescribes 200 questions in MCQs form in MAT question paper of MAT exam. MAT exam is divided in 5 sections with 40 questions in each section.

 

MAT 2019 Exam sections are Language Comprehension, Mathematical skills, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning, Indian and Global Environment. Merit Score in MAT exam is calculated on the basis of 4 sections only and the score of Indian & Global Environment is separately shown but will not be taken into account to calculate the merit or percentile in the MAT 2019 score card.
 

MAT Syllabus: At par with other MBA entrance exams
MAT 2019 exam Syllabus contains all the topics on which questions are asked in other MBA entrance exams. Past MAT question papers and the MAT exam pattern reveal that MAT 2019 syllabus would not place tough questions in any of the four MAT exams.

  

MAT Exam score accepting MBA colleges
There are around 600 MBA/PGDM colleges who will accept MAT exam score for admission to 2020-22 batch. The updated list of Management Institutes who will accept MAT 2019 exam scores for admission to their MBA programmes is available on MBAUniverse.com as released by AIMA for each MAT exam. The list of MAT score accepting MBA colleges may also change and can add more MBA colleges accepting MAT 2019 exam score. AIMA will also release the updated list of MAT 2019 score accepting colleges for each MAT exam.

 

Facility to appear in One PBT and CBT in Each MAT Exam
Candidates are allowed to appear in both the MAT exams in the same month. There is a choice to appear in paper based MAT exam or Computer based MAT exam or in both paper based as well as computer based MAT exam in the same month with an additional payment of Rs.1100/- towards application fee.

 

A Candidate could opt for both the MAT tests i.e. PBT and CBT by paying an extra fees of Rs.1100/- in addition to Rs.1550/-.

 

MAT Exam Admit card Download 
The MAT admit card for paper based MAT 2019 December exam is available for download from December 2, 2019. For computer based MAT exam the Admit card download is available from December 10, 2019.

 

All provisionally registered candidates for Paper Based Test and Computer Based Test can download their Admit Card from AIMA website on the scheduled dates for MAT Admit card Download.

 

Specific MAT Admit Card is generated both for the candidates opted for the Paper Based Test and for the Computer Based Test. Admit Card contains Candidate's Name, Form No, Roll No, Test Date, Test Time and Test Venue Address. Candidate has to strictly follow the date and time allotted to him/her in the case of Computer Based Test.

 

MAT Exam: Easy Question paper 
The MAT cut offs in MBA admission are not very high although MAT question paper and MAT scoring pattern awards liberal marks to MAT exam takers. The MAT colleges cut offs especially among the top 20 MAT colleges like – BIMTECH, K J Somaiya, SIMSREE, IESMCRC, NDIM, Jaipuria, FIIB, FLAME among others are slightly higher as compared to other MBA colleges accepting MAT scores since the merit position in top 20 MAT colleges is based on little higher MAT cut offs. 

 

MAT 2019 Exam Centres
MAT exam is conducted in more than 60 cities in India. The list of MAT exam centres across the country for each MAT exam is announced by AIMA alongwith the MAT exam Notification. MAT Score Validity: One year
The MAT exam score is valid for admission in one academic session. The list of MAT Colleges accepting MAT score is published by AIMA for each MAT exam separately. The best part of appearing in each MAT exam is that you can improve your score after every 3 months. Each MAT exam score is valid for 1 year. The best MAT exam score would be considered to get the merit position during MBA admission process of the B-school. 

 

No Fee to Send MAT Score to 5 MBA Colleges 
The biggest advantage of taking MAT exam is that you are given the facility to choose and apply upto 5 Management Institutes accepting MAT exam scores for MBA admission without paying any additional fee. The choices can be filled up in the space given in the MAT registration form.
