FMS Delhi Alumnus Rohit Jawa takes over as CEO & MD of Hindustan Unilever

Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi, must be truly proud today! Rohit Jawa, who completed his MBA from FMS Delhi in 1988, has taken over as the CEO & MD of Hindustan Unilever on June 27, after Sanjiv Mehta retired as the MD & CEO.

Known for transforming the consumer goods major's China and Philippine business, Rohit Jawa last served as the Chief of Transformation at Unilever’s London office. The 56-year-old Unilever veteran's career has spanned over 35 years since he joined as a management trainee in 1988, soon after his FMS MBA.

In his linked post, Rohit wrote, “Today marks my first day as the CEO & MD of Hindustan Unilever Limited, and I'm humbled and honoured to be entrusted with this position of great responsibility.” Remembering his younger days, Jawa said, “Spending time with our young and dynamic Management Trainees; brought back memories of a time when I first walked into the then Hindustan Lever Limited as a Management Trainee in my early 20s. Looking back, while a lot may have changed over the years, what has withstood the test of time is our DNA of 'Leaders build Leaders', our core values and our purpose-driven culture.”

For MBA aspirants, students and your MBAs, the rise and rise of Rohit Jawa, from the FMS Campus to becoming the CEO of one of India’s most coveted company, is an inspirations story.

Straight out of FMS Delhi, Rohit started his career with HUL as a Management Trainee in 1988. He has been in several leadership roles across sales, general management, transformation and marketing in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and North Asia. As EVP of North Asia and Chairman of Unilever China, Rohit helped transform the business into Unilever’s third largest business globally. As the Chairman of Unilever Philippines, he led the company to become one of the top 10 markets for Unilever globally.

In addition to his FMS MBA, Rohit has also completed advance management programs at IMD Business School, Lausanne, Switzerland and Harvard Business School. Rohit completed his bachelor’s degree from St Stephen’s College at the University of Delhi.

Optimistic on India
Rohit is indeed optimistic on India and HUL. He noted, “Today's India is full of opportunities, and the consumer story is getting more exciting as it evolves. It is our time to make a real difference through our business and brands and continue to touch the lives of many.”

With 90 years of heritage in India, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) is India’s largest fast-moving consumer goods company. Nine out of ten Indian households use one or more of HUL brands.
