IIMs announce Admission criteria 2019-21 with CAT cut offs

Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have announced their admission criteria for admission to PGP 2019-21 batch. All the 20 IIMs will shortlist the candidates for final admission round on the basis of CAT 2018 scores and other parameters like Academics, Diversity, Work experience among others. Each IIM has announced its distinct weightage to different parameter apart from announcing minimum qualifying sectional and overall percentile score in CAT 2018 exam.

IIMs have announced the admission criteria by reducing the weightage to CAT 2018 exam scores to improve the academic diversity in the IIM class rooms.

The admission process and criteria in IIMs are independent from one another. There is no role of another IIM in formulating the admission policy of one IIM unless it is a new IIM and is under the mentorship of another IIM.

Admission in IIMs involves 3 step process:

Step-1: Appear in CAT 2018
Those who want to pursue management course PGP 2019-21 programme from IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta or other IIMs must have appeared in Common Admission Test (CAT) 2018.

Read all about how to register for CAT and apply to IIMs.

Step-2: Shortlisting for final admission round
After declaration of CAT 2018 result in January 2019, on the basis of CAT 2018 exam scores candidates are shortlisted for next admission round by individual IIMs. While comparatively newer IIMs declare the 1st stage shortlists on the basis of CAT scores, older IIMs also take into account the other parameters at the 1st stage shortlist.

Step-3: Final Admission- WAT & PI round
All the shortlisted candidates shall have to appear in the Written Ability Test (WAT) followed by Personal Interview (PI). On the basis of their performance in PI round, weightage awarded to CAT scores, academic profile & diversity, work experience and gender diversity, final merit list will be generated and admission offers will be made.
