MAT Preparation is not very difficult as the MAT question paper has remained unchanged over last many exams. MAT question paper: Know the exam pattern to prepare well
The very first thing before you proceed for MAT preparation and add more marks to your score is to understand the MAT exam pattern which comprises 5 sections with 40 questions in each section. Along with the exam pattern you should be aware about the time limit within which you must complete your sectional attempts and save your time to attempt questions from other sections.

 

As advised by the experts, you should thoroughly check MAT syllabus on which entire MAT exam pattern is based. The topics emerging from the MAT syllabus would remain the same although questions could be in different forms.

Each of the 5 sections in MAT question paper will have 40 questions making it a total of 200 questions in MCQ format to be solved in 150 minutes. Individual time limit for each section has been suggested by AIMA although candidates can move from one section to other in the  MAT exam.

 

Only 4 sections in MAT exam will determine the percentile and merit position of the candidate whereas the score of 5th section ‘Indian and Global Environment’ will be separately reflected in MAT score card but will not be taken into account to calculate the MAT percentile.

Section-2: Intelligence and Critical Reasoning

  • Passage Conclusion
  • Analogy
  • Statement Argument
  • Assertions reasons
  • Family tree
  • Direction
  • Series, cause & effect, calendar, distribution
  • The section is supposed to have moderate level of difficulty but may be more time consuming. Make sure that you have covered all of them.

Section-3: Data Analysis and Sufficiency

70% of the questions in this section are expected to be on data interpretation. A few questions may be time consuming but overall the questions are supposed to have moderate difficulty level.

MAT syllabus as it reflects consists of more topics on Arithmetic in MAT question paper.

The difficulty level is expected to be moderate but may consume a bit more time. Candidates with more practice will be able to solve more of the questions within prescribed time. Those who can attempt this section with accuracy may expect a higher score.

 

Section-5: Indian and Global Environment (Score of this section not counted to calculate merit score)

Suggested time (in min): 15

Important topics for MAT preparation:

  • Economics and Economy related questions-
  • Business and Finance related questions
  • National and International current affairs
  • Conventional GK- Who’s who, past personalities, cities, capital, currencies, logo etc.

There are many other topics on which questions are placed in the MAT question paper in this section. In-depth and regular reading of news papers and of GK helps more as sometimes a few GK questions in MAT exam need intensive reading.

 

Most of the B schools accepting MAT scores keep this section as qualifying, although it is an integral part of MAT question paper. Scoring well in this adds to your scores and your score card also reflects it. In the final admission round B-schools consider the score in this section also.

 

Questions in this section are based on conventional GK, , current affairs, International events,. 15 minutes is a sufficient time to answer this section.
