IIM-K adopts three stage procedure for admissions 2011-13, CAT cut off 75 percentile

An important thing that should be taken note of by IIM-K aspirants is that the B-school has adopted a three-stage admissions process. The candidates will have to register online for the first two stages.

IIM Kozhikode has announced the Admissions Criteria for the 2011-13 batch admissions. There will be no GD round at the B-school, and instead Essay Writing test will be given. The following describes in detail the three stage procedure which will be used for short listing and further selection of candidates for the 2011 batch at IIM-K:

Stage 1 The first stage of short listing of candidates will be based on their overall CAT 2010 percentile and sectional cutoffs only. IIM-K will consider all the candidates meeting the minimum cut off and create an initial pool from which further short listing will be done. (The respective percentile cut-offs, both sectional and overall, are provided below for various categories.) The candidates who wish to be part of the initial pool have to register online at the B-schools website http://www.iimk.ac.in. The B-school mentions that The registration process at this stage is mandatory for any candidate interested to participate in IIMK interview process but the registration does not ensure your selection for the interview shortlist.

The last date of Stage I online registration is 21 January 2011. Percentile cut-offs: Sectional and Overall for Stage 1 shortlisting Category QA DI VERBAL OVERALL GEN 55 55 55 75 OBC (NC) 50 50 50 65 SC 45 45 45 55 ST 40 40 40 45 PWD Low Vision 40 40 40 45 PWD Hearing Impairment 40 40 40 45 PWD Locomotor Disability/Cerebral Palsy 40 40 40 45 Stage 2 In stage 2, an index score will be computed with: -- 50 percent weight for the overall CAT 2010 score -- 20 percent weight for academic performance in secondary school -- 20 percent weight for higher secondary school -- 10 percent to graduation The top ranking candidates based on this index score will be called for personal interview process.

The short listed candidates at this stage are once again required to register online for the second stage of IIMK online registration process with some more information and complete the personal profile form online. A candidate who does not register online in both the stages will not be considered for the interview process, mentions the IIM-K announcement. Stage 3: Final selection Criteria The final selection will be based on a composite score of various elements with following weights: -- Index arrived at stage 2 for short listing : 30% -- Writing Task (Essays) : 20% -- Personal Interviews : 35% -- Profiles : 15% The candidates will be asked to write an extempore essay on a topic. Topic will be announced at the venue just before the writing task. 30 minutes will be the time assigned.

Finally, the cumulative score (considering the above categories) will be computed and offers will be made based on the rank obtained.
