IIM Kashipur conducts media conclave on growing relevance of media in business
IIM Kashipur conducted a Media Conclave on February 15, 2014 to recognise the growing relevance of media in business.
IIM Kashipur conducted a Media Conclave on February 15, 2014 to recognise the growing relevance of media in business. Mr. Shailesh Shah, Secretary General of Indian Broadcasting Foundation was the keynote speaker for the Conclave.
After the lighting of the lamps,Prof. Gautam Sinha, Director, IIM Kashipur addressed the Conclave. He stressed upon the importance of medias role in impacting the social conscience of the nation. He mentioned the need of research on media power, ownership and influence and described the initiatives taken by IIM Kashipur to introduce new business electives in the spheres of Media and entertainment.
The keynote speaker, Mr. Shailesh Shah, Secretary General of Indian Broadcasting Foundation addressed the students and said, The phenomenal growth story of Infosys can be attributed to its world class governance standards and the way they effectively leveraged media to showcase their differentiation with the rest of the IT players. He also recounted the advances made by media in the past century.
Mr. Shailesh Shah drew an analogy between media and IT saying that Media is at the cusp of a booming growth. He said, Media is touted to become a $100 billion industry in years to come and it is imperative how B-schools prepare students so that industry can effectively absorb their talent.
Keynote speech was followed by a panel discussion on the topic how emerging trends in media were influencing businesses. The panel inculed Prof. Baharul Islam, Faculty and Chairperson, Planning and Development, IIM Kashipur; Mr R. Srinivasan, Associate Editor of Hindu Business Line; Mr Anant Vijay, Executive Producer, IBN7; Mr Subimal Bhattacharjee, former country head, General Dynamics and Mr. Asad Mirza, Media officer of the British Council.
Lakshya Sharma and Shankar Shethe, both students of IIM Kashipur also presented their views on the topic in the conclave.
