CAT 2018 Slot 2 Analysis
CAT 2018 Slot-2 exam has got over at 5.30PM. Candidates have reported a difficult DILR and moderate to difficult Quant. However, the cAT 2018 slot 2 exam has remained easier than the Slot-1 exam.

 

Here is the detailed CAT 2018 Slot-2 exam Analysis. While there was no surprise element in the test structure of CAT 2018 Exam Slot-2, it had a few changes as compared to slot-1 exam.

CAT 2018 Exam Analysis: Key changes in exam pattern

  • DILR was on difficult side, Quant was calculation intensive
  • RC Passages were found lengthy
  • Non-MCQs have remained 27 as were in slot 1in CAT 2018 as compared to 26 in CAT 2017 with different number of questions in each section as compared to last year.
  • VARC had 7 Non-MCQs, DILR 8 and Quant 12
  • RC passages were reduced to 5 in CAT 2018 from 6 in 2017, with changed number of questions. 4 RC passages were followed by 5 questions and 1 RC passage was followed by 4 questions
  • More Arithmetic and Algebra questions appeared in CAT 2018 slot-2.
  • No change in Scoring pattern: Scoring pattern in CAT 2018 has remained to +3 for correct answer and -1 for wrong answer for MCQs and +3 for correct answer and 0 negative marking for wrong answer in Non-MCQs
  • Many non MCQS had answer options also. The correct answers had to be typed in the given space.

CAT SECTION WISE ANALYSIS

 

VARC

  • The first section on VARC had 34 questions.
  • RC Based questions were 24
  • Verbal Ability section had 10 questions
  • Para Jumbles had 4 sentence structure and were easier
  • Non MCQs were 7 without negative marking
  • RC Passages were on Use of Technology for Employee Assessment, Saturn Righ, Snails, and others appeared with 25 questions in MCQ format

DILR

  • Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) questions were of moderate to tough difficulty level.
  • Candidates could not attempt beyond 10-12questions out of 32.
  • Questions were in sets. Some of the topics are – Room and Time arrangement for 7 people, Coding

Quantitative Ability

  • Quantitative Ability section had 34 questions
  • Maximum number of 12 Non-MCQs were in Quant section
  • More questions were on Arithmetic and Algebra
  • Quant had more calculation intensive questions
  • Overall the section was slightly on higher difficulty side.

It is expected that there would not be much deviation in CAT slot 2 on the score front that could fetch the same percentile as in slot 1. The raw score between 155-165 could fetch a percentile of 98-99 in CAT 2018. 

 

Here is the CAT 2018 Slot-1 exam Analysis. The CAT 2018 Slot 1 got over at 12.00 Noon. CAT 2018 slot 1 was more difficult than CAT 2017.

 

While there was no surprise element in the test structure of CAT 2018 Exam Slot-1, it had number of changes as compared to last year. However, the overall exam pattern was same.

CAT 2018 Exam Analysis: Key changes in exam pattern

  • Total number of Non-MCQ type of questions have increased to 27 in CAT 2018 as compared to 26 in CAT 2017 with different number of questions in each section as compared to last year.
  • Number of Non-MCQs in VARC section have increased to 7
  • RC passages have been reduced to 4 in CAT 2018 from 5 in last year CAT. Each RC passage was followed by 5 questions.
  • Quant section had highest number of 12 Non-MCQs as compared to 10 Non-MCQs in CAT 2017 slot-1.
  • More Arithmetic intensive questions appeared in CAT 2018 slot-1.
  • No change in Scoring pattern: Scoring pattern in CAT 2018 has remained to +3 for correct answer and -1 for wrong answer for MCQs and +3 for correct answer and 0 negative marking for wrong answer in Non-MCQs
  • Many non MCQS had answer options also. The correct answers had to be typed in the given space.

DILR
Most of the candidates found the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) questions more difficult and could not attempt beyond 10 questions out of 32.

 

Quantitative Ability
Quantitative Ability section despite having highest number of 12 Non-MCQs out of 34 questions was found on slightly higher difficulty side. Geometry part was however, found to be a bit more difficult in CAT 2018.

CAT 2018 exam date is Sunday, November 25, 2018. The CAT 2018 exam is being conducted in two slots. Slot-1 is the Morning Session and Slot-2 is the Afternoon Session.

  • CAT Exam Date Slot-1: November 25, 2018
  • CAT Exam Time Slot-1 (Gen/OBC/SC/ST Candidates): 9 AM to 12 Noon
  • CAT Exam Time Slot-1 (PwD candidates): 9 AM to 1 PM
  • CAT Exam Reporting Time Slot-1: 7.30 AM
  • CAT Exam Entry Closing Time Slot-1: 8.45 AM

Slot-2 Afternoon Session: CAT Exam Date & Time

  • CAT Exam Date Slot-2: November 25, 2018
  • CAT Exam Time Slot-2 (Gen/OBC/SC/ST Candidates): 2.30 PM to 5.30 PM
  • CAT Exam Time Slot-2 (PwD candidates): 2.30 PM to 6.30 PM
  • CAT Exam Reporting Time Slot-2: 1 PM
  • CAT Exam Entry Closing Time Slot-2: 2.15 PM

Important Note

  • Please arrive at the CAT 2018 Test Centre at least 30 minutes before the gate closure time of the CAT Test Venue
  • A day before your CAT exam date, visit the Test Venue to ascertain about the distance and transport system between your place of stay and the test venue. 
  • Add some more time to the total time taken in reaching the CAT exam centre.
  • No candidate will be allowed to leave the testing room before the completion of CAT exam
  • No Break during the exam time will allowed. The candidate must use the rest room before exam commencement

How to be Prepared for CAT 2018 Exam Date?
Remember the following to gather and complete before the CAT 2018 Exam Date:

  • Check if you have taken Print of your CAT Admit card on an A4 size paper.
  • Check if you have pasted your photograph on CAT 2018 admit card. If not, paste the identical photograph as uploaded at the time of completing the CAT 2018 Registration Form at the indicated place.
  • Please note that CAT Admit Card is valid only if the candidate's photograph and signature images are legibly printed.
  • Keep the CAT Admit Card ready to carry on CAT exam date with you. CAT Admit card is to be produced for verification at the time of the test.
  • Keep ready at least one original (not photocopied or scanned) valid (not expired) photo identification card. This ID is needed to be produced for verification at the CAT Exam centre on the CAT exam date.
  • Valid and acceptable Photo IDs are: College ID, Employer ID, Driving License, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhar Card, Identification Affidavit). The candidate's photograph and  signature should be legibly printed and visible on the photo ID card and should match the name on Admit Card. The Photo ID card should not be damaged or smudged.
  • Locate your CAT test centre and its accessibility a day before the test so that you can reach the test centre on time on the CAT exam date.

CAT 2018 Exam date Activity: Important Do’s and Don’ts

 

Do’s

  • Arrive at the CAT exam centre on the CAT exam date 90 minutes before the commencement of the CAT exam
  • Only Admit Card & Photo ID Card are allowed inside the CAT test hall. Nothing else is permitted.
  • Allow PwD candidates to get into test centre first as they will get priority entry

Don’ts

  • Do not carry Mobile phones, electronic gadgets, watches, calculators, stationary items, papers, wallets, goggles or similar such things as they are not allowed inside the test hall on CAT exam date.
  • Do not wear any jewelry or other items containing metal, you may be asked to remove them.
  • Don’t wear shoes and socks, you have to remove your footwear before entering the test hall.
  • Don’t carry valuables on CAT exam date to CAT exam centre. There is no facility for safekeeping of your personal belongings outside the test hall and CAT Centre is not responsible for its loss.
  • Don’t ask your friends and relatives to accompany you as they will not be allowed inside the test centre.

Locating your Seat on CAT exam date

You can locate your designated seat and test lab at the CAT test centre on the CAT exam date with Test System number. There is Test System Number in your CAT Admit card. This system number is provided only for the limited purpose of identifying the floor / wing and the computer at your designated seat at the test venue on the CAT exam day.

 

For any correspondence with CAT Centre you must provide your Registration Number and not the Test System number.

  

Inside the CAT testing hall on CAT exam date

  • Before you enter the CAT testing hall use the wash room as you are not allowed to go to wash room during the CAT exam duration.
  • You will be provided with rough pad and pen for rough work, which will have to be returned after the test.
  • You should clearly write your name and registration number on the rough pad.
