XAT Analysis: Technical glitches reported, Gurgaon exam rescheduled; Moderately difficult paper
XAT 2018 exam has got over a few minutes ago. There were 98 questions divided in 5 sections in the first online XAT. Out of 92000 candidates who registered for XAT 2018, around 85000 appeared in XAT exam held today on January 7, 2018 from 10AM to 1.35PM.

Exam was not free from technical glitches several candidates at many centres found their exam getting stopped abruptly.
XAT 2018 exam did not take place at BM Group of Institutions at Farukhnagar Gurgaon due to technical glitches. The exam will be rescheduled. XLRI has sent the message to the students: Dear Candidate we regret the inconvenience caused due to technical glitch. Exam will be rescheduled and date will be communicated shortly.

XAT Analysis: Tricky Decision Making, difficult Verbal to keep cut offs low; 1st CBT faces technical issues
XAT 2018 was a bit difficult exam but has been rated moderate overall and almost at the same level as last year. Students have found XAT 2018 a bit more lengthy but not a very difficult exam except that the questions in Decision Making section were rated more difficult.
XAT 2018 Exam Difficulty level & topic overview
Overall, XAT 2018 was a moderately difficult exam
Quant section had 27 questions and was easier compared to last year papers
Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning had 24 questions and was slightly more difficult. There was only 1 set of question on logical reasoning.
Decision Making section had 21 questions and was trickier than other two sections and was time consuming.
GK Section had 25 questions. Almost 50% of questions were based on Current Affairs.
Essay Topic was on Ethics and Sustainability. Total limit was 200 words.
XAT 2018 XLRI Cut offs is expected to be 33-35
Based on the feedback from the candidates, it is anticipated that the cut off at XLRI, SPJIMR, IMT would more or less remain the same as last year for MBA admission 2018.
XAT 2018 remained a single session exam without any change in sectional composition of questions. The exam was held in 47 test cities in India and 2 cities abroad as an online computer based test.

- Total Questions: 98
- Difficulty level: Moderate to difficult
- Total MCQs: 97 (1 question on Essay writing was descriptive in nature)
- Answer options: Each MCQ was followed by 5 answer options
- MCQs with negative marking: 72
- MCQs without negative marking: 25 (GK section is exempted from negative marking)
- Time limit to attempt the question paper: 3 hours
- Total maximum marks: 100
- Bifurcation of marking: All questions except essay writing test carry equal marks. 1 mark for each correct answer for MCQs and 3 marks for essay writing will be awarded.
- Negative marking: 0.25 mark deducted for each wrong answer of MCQs from 1-72 in first three sections. No deduction of marks for wrong answers of GK questions or in essay writing section.
- Sectional cut off: Applicable
- XAT test submission: Candidates were allowed to submit their test after 30 minutes from the commencement of XAT exam. But they were not allowed to leave the testing hall.
Significant changes in XAT 2018 exam pattern
XAT 2018 was the first online computer based XAT exam. Accordingly, XLRI has brought about significant changes in the exam pattern. A full length mock test to apprise the candidates with the type of questions and expected difficulty level was released by XLRI a few days before the XAT exam day. Important changes in XAT 2018 are:
