1. IITs Offering MBA Programs
There are 23 IITs in India and out of them 8 IITs offer 2 years full time MBA program with various specializations. Top IITs offering MBA include IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay which are the most preferred MBA programs. Apart from them, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, IIT Dhanbad and IIT Jodhpur also offer 2 years full time MBA.
2. MBA from IITs: Admission Process Overview
Here are the key highlights of admission process for MBA from IITs:
- Eligibility Criteria for MBA from IITs: A graduate in Engineering or other disciplines with 60 percent marks is the minimum academic eligibility for MBA from IIT. While IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur need Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Maths or Science, other IITs including IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay accept Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with 60 percent marks.
- Mandatory Entrance Exam: IITs accept only CAT exam scores for MBA Admission
- How to Apply for Admission to MBA from IITs? Apart from taking CAT exam, you should apply separately for MBA admission to each IIT.
- Selection Process for IITs MBA Admission: IITs shortlist candidates based on CAT exam score, your profile and work experience. IITs conduct PI-WAT in final selection round. 3. IIT MBA Admission 2025 Eligibility Criteria
While IIT Delhi, IIT Madras and IIT Kharagpur offer MBA admission to the candidates both from Engineering and Non-Engineering back grounds, other IITs need graduation in Engineering, Science or Commerce. Check each IIT eligibility criteria for admission to MBA program:
3.1 IIT Bombay MBA Eligibility Criteria:
- 4 year bachelor’s or master’s degree with minimum 60% aggregate (55% in case of SC/ST category) or a minimum CGPA of 6.5 (6 for SC/ST category) out of 10,
- Or CA/ICWA with bachelor’s degree minimum 60% aggregate (55% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category) or a minimum CPI of 6.5 (6 in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category) out of 10
3.2 IIT Delhi MBA and MBA Telecom Eligibility Criteria:

- Bachelor's degree with minimum 60% aggregate (6.00 CGPA on a 10-point scale) for General category candidates
- Minimum 55% aggregate for SC/ST candidates (5.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale)
MBA-Telecom
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy/ Agriculture Engineering
or - Bachelor’s degree in Physical/Chemical/Mathematical Sciences like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Application, Electronic Science, Environmental Science, Operations Research, Computational/Information Science, Agriculture or Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce/ Economics/CA/ICWA
- Minimum 60% aggregate (6.00 CGPA on a 10-point scale) for General candidates & 55% aggregate for SC/ST candidates (5.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale)
3.3 IIT Kharagpur MBA Eligibility Criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree of minimum 4-year duration in Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy, Medicine, or similar disciplines
- Master’s degree in Science/Economics/Commerce (with Mathematics or Statistics at Bachelor’s level)
- Minimum 60% aggregate or CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale for GE/NC-OBC candidates and Minimum 55% aggregate or CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale for SC/ST/PwD candidates
3.4 IIT Roorkee MBA Eligibility Criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline of Engineering or Technology or Master’s degree in any discipline
3.5 IIT Madras MBA Eligibility Criteria
- Graduate with minimum 60% aggregate (General category) and Graduate with minimum 55% aggregate (SC/ST/PwD)
3.6 IIT Kanpur MBA Eligibility Criteria
- BTech, BSc Engineering, BE or B Arch, BSc with Maths, MSc with Maths, MA in Economics with Maths
- Minimum 65% aggregate (CGPA 6.5 on a 10-point scale) for General category & minimum 55% aggregate (CGPA 5.5 on a 10-point scale) for SC/ST category students

6. Shortlist Criteria for MBA Admission in IITs
Each IIT has its own shortlist criteria for final selection round and have different CAT cut offs as detailed above. For example, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay will shortlist the candidates on the basis of CAT 2024 score, past academic performance and other criteria as decided by their admission committee. Few other IITs will consider only overall CAT exam score and a few, like IIT Bombay may consider sectional CAT score also.
7. Final Selection Process for Admission to MBA from IITs
IITs conduct Personal Interview (PI) and Writing Ability Test (WAT) in their final selection process and award high weightage to the performance in both these components. For the last few years IIT Delhi has discontinued WAT process. IIT Kanpur also conduct the Group Discussion in its MBA Admission. The PI round is of 10 to 20 minutes duration while WAT is about 20-30 minutes duration in MBA admission process at IITs.
8. How to Apply for MBA Admission in IITs?
Before applying for MBA in IIT, you need to apply and appear in CAT 2024. Post this, you must apply to each IIT for MBA Admission separately. Unless you have applied and appeared in CAT, you will not be considered for IIT MBA Admission 2025. You also need to enter your CAT 2024 score in IITs MBA Application form.
- IIT Application Fees is Rs.1600 for MBA Admission for General, OBC and EWS category candidates
- For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, the application fees for IIT MBA admission is Rs.800
9. MBA from IITs: Important Dates for Admission 2025
Application process for IITs MBA Admission 2025 will remain open for more than a month after release of CAT exam result. Important dates are:
- IIT MBA Application Dates: From January 2025 first week to last week
- IIT MBA Selection Process Dates: March 2025 First Week Onwards
- Final Admission Offer 2025 Release Date: Last Week of April 2025
