IIM Ahmedabad PGP and PGP-FABM 2019-21 batch has been inaugurated on June 16. PGP 2019-21 Batch size comprises 388 students from diverse back ground. 49% professionals with a work experience of 13-36 months and 24% women candidates with diverse background have joined the PGP batch. 26% students in PGP-FABM batch are from Food/Dairy technology back ground. IIMA admission policy 2019 was modified to provide level playing field for the candidates from all walks of life

IIM Ahmedabad welcomed the new batch (2019-21) of PGP and PGP-FABM on June 16, 2019 at its campus. The PGP batch comprises 388 students in 2019 as against 399 in 2018. IIM Ahmedabad witnessed a consistent and steady rise in students with work experience of 13 – 36 months joining PGP Programme, even with the increase in batch size in 2018.

Professionals Constitute 49% of PGP 2019-21 Batch
The data for PGP programme 2019-21 batch, shared by IIM Ahmedabad, reveal that almost half of the students joining the course have work experience between 13 and 36 months. During the last two years, the percentage of such professionals has gone up to 49% in 2019 from 38% in 2017:

24% Female Candidates in the PGP Batch
Although the percentage of female students in the PGP 2019-21 batch at IIM Ahmedabad has gone down slightly, the institute has witnessed female students from diverse back ground joining the PGP at IIM Ahmedabad:

Commenting on the percentage of female students going down, Professor D’Souza added, “We are conscious about the efficacy of increasing the percentage of women entering our class. The achievements are slow as the goal is to not give extra credits or specify a quota for gender or other diversity attributes in the admissions process.”

Manasi Susarla, PGP 2019-21 - Journalism & Communication Back Ground

Manasi Susarla, with a background in Journalism and Communication has joined PGP 2019-21 batch at IIM Ahmedabad. She said, "Having dealt with fast-paced businesses on an everyday basis and driven communication strategies for them for almost two years now, I have developed a keen interest in how businesses, in their entirety, function and grow.”

Sharing the key objective of joining the PGP at IIMA, she said, “My undergraduate course in Communication Studies gave me a wider perspective as it involved various facets of organisational behaviour, internet and new media, human communication, and media research and criticism. Soon after, my stint at Adfactors PR helped me gain in-depth knowledge of how and why businesses communicate with different stakeholders. Now, my key objective behind pursuing this programme is to learn all aspects of managing and strengthening a business while also obtaining necessary industry knowledge and expertise. PGP-FABM 2019-21 Batch: More Students with Agriculture, Food, Dairy Background

Danish S. Mehta, PGP-FABM 2019-21 - From Farmer’s Family

On joining PGP-FABM 2019-21 batch, Danish S. Mehta, said, "I come from a farmer-family in Haryana. From the very beginning of my professional endeavors, I had a keen interest in the field of agriculture and wanted to have my own agri-business. My undergraduate course B.Sc (Hons.) Agriculture from CCS Haryana Agricultural University taught me in depth about the operational nuances of agriculture as a livelihood and what importance it holds in our country.

IIM Ahmedabad has been liberalising its admission criteria almost every year and this year also has modified the CAT score cut offs for admission 2019-21 to improve further the academic diversity in its class rooms. As a result more, non-engineers and the candidates from diverse backgrounds, have joined IIM Ahmedabad now.

IIM Ahmedabad Admission Eligibility

  1. To meet the IIM Ahmedabad eligibility criteria, the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category, the eligibility criterion is relaxed to 45%
  2. The bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent
  3. If the candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence would be based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where the bachelor's degree is obtained. In case the institution/university does not have any scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by IIM Ahmedabad by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant by 100 to confirm the eligibility of the candidate.  
  4. A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. Such a candidate must produce a certificate from the principal/head of the department/ registrar/director of the institution/university certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year or is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category) based on latest available grades/marks.
  5. Such a candidate, if selected, will become ineligible for the IIM Ahmedabad admission unless he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2019 from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university (issued on or before June 30, 2019) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the result may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
  6. It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally considered eligible by IIM Ahmedabad and offered admission, to submit the mark-sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination held on or before June 30, 2019.  The deadline to submit the mark-sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2019. 
  7. One of the most important points in IIM Ahmedabad Admission Eligibility criteria is that apart from a recognized graduate degree, the candidate should appear in CAT 2018 exam and must score minimum prescribed score in the entrance exam to become eligible for admission

IIM Ahmedabad Admission Criteria
IIM Ahmedabad Admission Criteria 2019-21 remained a two step process involving the preliminary screening and shortlisting criteria with  higher weightage for CAT exam score and the Final selection Criteria which has low weightage to CAT exam score.

1. IIM Ahmedabad Shortlisting Criteria
The first part of IIM Ahmedabad Admission criteria was its shortlisting criteria for final selection round. A candidate was shortlisted by IIM Ahmedabad if he/she met the following shortlisting criteria:

  • The 1st stage of shortlisting in IIM Ahmedabad Admission Criteria awards 70% weight to CAT 2018 score and 30% weight to Academic Profile
  • IIMA endeavours to recognise exceptional performers in terms of their previous academic records as well as their performance in CAT across diverse academic backgrounds. Towards that, a certain number of top candidates from each of the academic disciplines will be shortlisted for AWT & PI subject to their fulfilling shortlisting criteria.
  • The candidate must have scored minimum sectional percentile of 70 in each of the three sections of CAT 2018 – Quantitative Aptitude' (QA), ‘Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning' (DILR) and ‘Verbal and Reading Comprehension' (VRC)
  • A candidate must have scored minimum overall percentile of 80 in CAT 2018
  • If the candidate does not score minimum prescribed percentile in CAT 2018, he/she was not considered for shortlisting for final selection stage.
  • 70% Weight was awarded for CAT 2018 score in shortlisting for final selection round by IIM Ahmedabad
  • The candidate with excellent academics was awarded higher points in shortlisting criteria
  •  90% & Above marks in Class 10 was awarded top rating of 10 points
  • For Class 12 also 90% and above marks were awarded 10 points. However, top rating of 10 for Class 12  varied. To get highest weightage for class 12 marks in Science and Commerce stream, 90% marks are needed. For Arts stream, 85% plus marks are required for rating score of 10.
  • For Bachelor’s degree weightage, the top rating of 10 (Rating score C) varies for different streams. The academic streams are categorised from AC-1 to AC-7. The medicine branch is defined as AC-1 and needs more than 70% marks to get highest rating of 10.

2. Final Admission Selection Round Criteria

  • All the shortlisted candidates were eligible to participate in Final selection round for admission to IIM Ahmedabad
  • IIM Ahmedabad selection criteria after final admission round awarded 50% weight to Personal Interview(PI); 10% weight to Academic Writing Test  (AWT) and 40% Weight to CAT 2018 Score and Academics.

IIM Ahmedabad Admission Cut Off  
IIM Ahmedabad cutoff 2019 was reduced for admission 2019-21. Only the candidates above the minimum cut-offs in the CAT 2018 sectional percentile ranks, the overall percentile rank and obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT-2018 were considered for all the subsequent stages.

IIM Ahmedabad Admission Process
Following steps are included in the IIM Ahmedabad Admission process:

  • Step 1: The candidate must have appeared and scored the minimum required percentile in CAT 2018
  • Step 2: Candidates are short-listed for AWT and PI from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2018 score, who have applied to the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme  
  • Step 3: After the AWT & PI round, admission offers are made by IIMA to successful candidates. The final selection is based on a diverse set of attributes which includes performance in CAT, performance in AWT & PI, academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular achievements, work experience among others
  • Step 4: Final Admission Offer was made to the candidates in the last week of April 2019 on the basis of Final Composite Score (FCS) which awards 50% weight to PI score, 10% weight to AWT score and 40% weight to CAT score & Academics

IIM Ahmedabad Fees

  • The total programme fees payable by PGP students at IIM Ahmedabad is Rs 23,00,000/- (inclusive of tuition fees)
  • Laptop computer, personal expenses on boarding, travel, clothes and laundry are extra.

CAT 2018 notification was released by IIM Calcutta on July 29. After the CAT 2018 Registration and Application process was opened on August 8, IIM Ahmedabad was quick to announce its admission policy for PGP 2019-21 batch.  

IIM Ahmedabad has not changed the name of its flagship management programme despite the fact that IIM Act 2017 has been implemented empowering the IIMs to award MBA degree instead of Post Graduate Diploma. The admission criteria announced by IIM Ahmedabad still share its programme name as Post Graduate Programme (PGP) 2019-21, although many IIMs have decided to award MBA degree instead of PGDM.

The two years PGP of IIM Ahmedabad is a full-time residential course for graduates from all disciplines wishing to choose a career in management.
