- IIM Bangalore eligibility criteria require that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category, the eligibility criterion is relaxed to 45%

9. IIM Bangalore Admission Criteria 2025: Exam Accepted, Final selection Process
IIMB adopts a two-phase selection. The first phase of the process is applied to all eligible candidates who appear for CAT 2024 to determine candidates to be called for a personal interview (PI).
- Candidates selected for the PI process will additionally be required to take a Writing Ability Test (WAT) on a topic to be provided by IIMB.
- During the interview, the panel will evaluate each candidate's academic background, quality of work experience and other personal traits.
- The WAT submission will be evaluated separately.
- The scores of the WAT, interview and pre-PI scores (with appropriate weightages) will be used cumulatively in the second and final phase to select the candidates for the programme.
- The selection process, parameters and weights used are uniform for all applicants within a category.
- Sufficient candidates are shortlisted at each stage from each social category to meet the reservation requirement for each group, as applicable at that time
The Admission Criteria 2025 of IIMB brings a liberalised CAT 2024 percentile cut off and relaxed admission eligibility criteria and greater focus on profile. IIM Bangalore has increased the weightage to CAT score in arriving at the shortlist for PI-WAT round while the score for performance in PI-WAT commands highest weightage in preparing the final merit list for admission.
It is mandatory for the candidates who wish to pursue MBA from IIM Bangalore that he/she must have registered and applied for CAT 2024 and must appear in the CAT 2024 exam on November 24, 2024. A balanced score in all the three sections of CAT 2024 and good academic profile is the key to get admission in IIM Bangalore.
9.1 Two Stages of IIM Bangalore Admission 2025
The selection of the candidates for admission 2025 at IIM Bangalore is a two-step process involving Shortlisting criteria for PI-WAT and the Final admission selection Criteria comprising PI-WAT round.
In the first step, IIM Bangalore will shortlist the candidates for WAT and Personal Interview (PI) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2024 score, who have applied to the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme. The second step is the final selection criteria on the basis of which admission offer will be made.
IIMB uses multiple parameters, namely academic performance in 10th & 12th grades, graduation programmes as well as the candidate's section wise scores in CAT to judge the suitability of a candidate for the PGP program. Relevant work experience, if any, is also given weight in the selection. The CAT score, over and above being a selection criterion, is also used to establish the minimum level of proficiency that is expected from the candidate in respective faculties as indicated by section wise minimum scores in the CAT. The various criteria mentioned above are used to arrive at a composite score for every candidate, which in turn is used to select candidates for the subsequent stages.
Stage-1: IIM Bangalore Shortlisting Criteria for Admission 2025
The Admission criteria and weights given to various parameters in shortlisting are based on data from previous cycles as well as on inputs from the IIM Bangalore faculty body and other relevant stakeholders. The Admission criteria at IIM Bangalore are revised every year. The admission committee fixes these criteria and weights before beginning of each admission cycle to avoid any bias
The first part of IIM Bangalore Admission criteria is the shortlisting criteria before final selection round. IIM Bangalore will shortlist the candidates on the basis of CAT 2024 score, past academic performance, and other criteria as under:
- The 1st stage of shortlisting in IIM Bangalore Admission Criteria awards 30% weight to Academics, 55% weight to CAT 2024 score, 10% weight to Work Experience/Professional Qualification and 5% to Gender Diversity
- The candidate must have scored minimum sectional percentile of 80 in ‘Verbal and Reading Comprehension' (VARC); ‘Quantitative Aptitude' (QA), ‘Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning' (DILR) in CAT 2024. The minimum overall percentile required for PGP 2025 shortlsting through CAT 2024 at IIM Bangalore is 85.
- If the candidate does not score minimum prescribed percentile in CAT 2024, he/she will not be considered for shortlisting for final selection stage.
- The candidate with excellent academics will be awarded higher points in shortlisting criteria
- 90% & Above marks in Class 10 will be awarded top rating of 10 points out of 100.
- For Class 12, 90% and above marks will be awarded 10 points out of 100.
- Bachelor’s degree marks will also get 10% weightage
Gender Diversity and Work Experience
- Gender Diversity will be awarded 5 points
- Weightage to Work Experience or for Professional Graduation Degree is 10%
Professional Qualification
Candidates with Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting, and Company Secretary certifications are eligible for weightage under the category of professional course. No other professional course is eligible for weightage under the said category.
- Top 10 candidates in each of the following parameters: total score in CAT, adjusted Bachelors’score (commerce, arts, and science disciplines), and Professional (CA/ ICWA/ CS), will automatically qualify for final selection round. These candidates are given a chance to appear for PI round due to their exceptional performance in these categories.

Stage-2: IIM Bangalore Final Admission Selection Round Criteria
- All the shortlisted candidates are eligible to participate in Final selection round for admission to IIM Bangalore
- IIM Bangalore selection criteria after final admission round award 40% weight to Personal Interview (PI); 10% weight to Written Ability Test (WAT); 25% weight to CAT 2024 Score; 5% weight to Class 10 Marks; 5% weight to Class 12 marks; 5% weight to Bachelor’s degree marks; 10% weight to work experience.
- The maximum weightage of 10 points for work experience will be awarded by IIM Bangalore in final selection round on the basis of length of work experience and quality of work experience as on July 31, 2024. The candidate with managerial work experience of 36 months & above after graduation will be awarded the 10 points. No weightage will be awarded for the work experience below 6 months. Besides, Training/Project work/work done as an integral part of curricular requirement will not be considered.
- WAT at IIM Bangalore will be of 30 minutes duration. The performance of each candidate on the Written Ability Test (WAT) will be scored in terms of content and style
- All candidates will be required to provide two confidential reference letters from their employers or from teachers in the academic institutions where they had been students previously before the PI round at IIM Bangalore.

10. IIM Bangalore MBA Admission CAT Cut offs
- IIM Bangalore Cutoff has been liberalised for admission 2025.
- Sectional cut offs are uniform for all 3 sections. Earlier they used to vary from section to section
- Only the candidates above the minimum cut-offs in the CAT 2024 sectional percentile ranks, the overall percentile rank and obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT-2024 will be considered for all the subsequent stages.
- These are cut-offs used for preparing the first short-list
- The actual CAT 2024 cut-offs for those who are called for interview could be much higher
- Below are the minimum CAT 2024 cutoffs required for shortlisting.
- No candidate in the respective category will be considered for the 1st phase shortlisting and will be out of admission process at IIM Bangalore, in case the following CAT cut offs are not met.

11. IIM Bangalore MBA Selection Process 2025
The process of admission to IIM Bangalore is based on the relationship between academic performance of students of the PGP in IIMB and their past academic performance, their CAT score, performance in the admission interview and prior work experience. Following steps are included in the IIM Bangalore Admission process:
Step 1: The candidate must have appeared and scored the minimum required sectional and overall percentile in CAT 2024 to be considered for first stage screening process for admission at IIM Bangalore
Step 2: Candidates are short-listed for Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2024 score, who have excellent academics, who have applied to the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme of IIM Bangalore
Step 3: IIM Bangalore will identify many candidates for shortlisting for the PI round with an excellent academic record and work experience but who may have narrowly missed the high score that would have been required if CAT alone was the basis for the PI shortlist. Such candidates will be preferred in the shortlisting process as against those who have only a high CAT score but have poor academic profile and poor quality of work experience. The emphasis in shortlisting process at IIM Bangalore is on consistent and high performance in academics and other parameters.
Step 4: After the WAT & PI round, admission offers are made by IIM Bangalore to successful candidates. The final selection is based on a diverse set of attributes which includes performance in WAT & PI, Performance in past academics, Performance in CAT 2024, Quality of Work Experience among others
Step 5: Final Admission Offer will be made by IIM Bangalore to the candidates in the third week of April 2025 on the basis of Final Score arrived after awarding the weightage scores on all the components.
