FMS Delhi Shortlist
If you score 100 percentile in CAT 2017 you will get a weight of 60 points on a scale of 100 in the overhauled shortlisting criteria of FMS Delhi as against 85 last year

FMS Delhi shortlist will be out in a ratio of 10:1 candidate for MBA admission 2018 in the month of February 2018. For an intake of total 216 candidates from all categories, around 2160 candidates will be included in the main shortlist of FMS Delhi. However, it makes the competition tough in GD-extempore-PI round as 10 candidates will be vying for 1 MBA seat at FMS Delhi which has no plan to increase the intake this year.

Post declaration of CAT 2017 result on January 8, almost all the top IIMs have announced their shortlists in a few days’ time. However, FMS Delhi which stands at par with top rated IIMs and other top MBA colleges in India, has decided to announce its first shortlist for admission to flagship MBA 2018-20 batch in the month of February 2018.

FMS Shortlisting criteria 2018
MBA admission 2018-20 at Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi University, Delhi will be a different experience for the CAT 2017 toppers with 98 and above percentile as they may not find a place in shortlist despite scoring high in the exam as the high RoI FMS Delhi has announced major changes in its MBA 2018-20 shortlisting criteria:

Weight reduced for CAT 2017 score
Weightage to CAT 2017 exam score has been reduced to 60% from 85% last year. Now if you score 100 percentile in CAT 2017 you will get a weight of 60 points on a scale of 100 in the overhauled shortlisting criteria of FMS Delhi as against 85 last year.

Weight awarded to sectional percentile in CAT
Instead of overall CAT 2017 percentile score, sectional scores will be very important to shortlist test takers in the FMS Admission 2018 as under:

CAT 2017 section
Weightage in percentage
Verbal Ability & Reasing Comprehension (VARC)
 40
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)
 30
Quantitative Ability (QA)
 30
Total
100

On the basis of above sectional scores, FMS Delhi will shortlist the candidates for final admission round. Accordingly, even if you have scored 100 percentile in each of the three sections, you may lag behind a candidate with 98 percentile overall and 100 percentile in VARC section as it carries 40% weight in shortlisting criteria.

99 percentilers Not shortlisted as against 97 percentiler
If a candidate scores 99 percentile in CAT 2017 but has a low percentile in VARC and higher percentile in Quant and DILR sections he may have lesser chances to be shortlisted by FMS than the candidate who has scored 97 percentile overall in CAT 2017 but has higher percentile in VARC and slightly low percentile in Quant and DILR.

99 percentiler remains behind
A candidate with percentile score of 99 in CAT 2017 has sectional percentile scores of – 100 in Quant; 98 in DILR and 80 in VARC.

After FMS awards weightage: 30% of 100=30 in Quant; 30% of 98=29.4 in DILR; 40% of 80=32 in VARC. Total points the candidate has scored in shortlisting process are – 91.6

97 percentiler shortlisted
This candidate with CAT 2017 percentile score of 97 has sectional percentile scores of – 94 in Quant; 92 in DILR and 99 in VARC

FMS awards weightage: 30% of 94=28.2 in Quant; 30% of 92=27.6 in DILR; 40% of 99=39.6 in VARC. Total points the candidate has scored are – 95.4

The visible difference will place the 99 percentiler in CAT 2017 below the 97 percentile during the shortlisting process at FMS Delhi Admission 2018. This fact will be visible after declaration of FMS Shortlist in February as many 99 percentilers will lag behind and the candidates who score lower percentile in CAT 2017 with higher score in VARC section will get shortlisted for PI round.

Announcing the changes in shortlisting criteria for GD-PI round in its admission for full time MBA 2018-20 batch, FMS Delhi says “From the shortlisted candidates, admission to MBA programme shall be based on Extempore Speech, Group Discussion, Personal Interview, Class X & Class XII marks and CAT 2017 scores as provided by CAT centre.”

Final Admission round with 3 components now
Group Discussion (GD) round which was scrapped in 2014 has been reintroduced with a weight of 10% in final selection round in FMS Admission 2018. Now the candidates will have to go through GD, extempore speech and PI round at FMS Delhi instead of earlier Extempore and PI round only.

In addition to above, 3% weight will be awarded to female candidates while preparing the merit list.

Changes to improve diversity

According to FMS Delhi, “To encourage diversity of Gender and Academic Disciplines, for the purpose of shortlisting candidates for Interview Process different weightages shall be assigned to the scores of different sections of the CAT 2017. A composite score shall be computed giving weightages of 30%, 30%, and 40% to the scores of QA, DI/LR and VRC sections respectively as provided by the CAT Centre for the CAT 2017 Examination for candidates who apply to FMS”

With a view to increase the number of Non-Engineers in its class rooms, FMS Delhi has revamped its shortlisting criteria and final selection process. 80% of the CAT 2017 aspirants come from engineering back ground and 90% of them need a good improvement to score high in VARC section as compared to the candidates coming from non-engineering back ground who need less time to devote to prepare for VARC section.

With the changed shortlisting criteria on the basis of CAT 2017 score, FMS Delhi has announced that it will award 10% higher weightage to VARC sectional scores. It implies that in the process to admit more non-engineers, better performing candidates in VARC section will get preference. So, even if 2 candidates score high equal percentile in CAT 2017 but have deviation in their sectional scores, the one with higher percentile in VARC will be shortlisted.

FMS Delhi conducts the Personal Interview round at Delhi only. The candidates from all over the country are supposed to attend the final admission round only at one city-Delhi in accordance to the assigned date and session.

FMS Delhi Shortlist and PI round dates
FMS Delhi after finalizing the shortlist of candidates would declare it in the month of February 2018. The next stage of admission round at FMS is proposed to begin in the month of April 2018.
