Is your Inbox hampering MBA Dream? Glass half full or half empty, its your wish!

Everything right now in India is being linked to Elections and Modi or Kejriwal or Gandhi. Hence let me start my article with an election example to make things easier for you to understand.

When the election in India is announced, dozens of candidates campaign and vouch people support for just one coveted seat in a region. Each one of them will make sure to reach each possible house and contact each possible voter. Being a real voter, we too listen to them as what they have to say, their promises, their explanations. Hence, inspite of these leaders being in front of us and campaigning for so many earlier elections, we still listen to their promises, people still gather at their rally and you still tune in to news channels to listen to their success reports. Why do we do that?

We do that because we are selfish, we do it because its for our benefit. Without listening to them, knowing their plans and analyzing them we cant vote for the right person. Thats the foundation for a fruitful democracy.
Now, how this is connected to MBA Admissions. Well, I start with one of the most common issues raised by the so called internet savvy gang of MBA Aspirants Receiving MBA Admission Mailers/emailers from various B-schools or Education portals. Is that an issue for you too?

Well, then this article is for you only. Let me prove why you are wrong and how your reluctance hampers your MBA opportunity and growth without you even noticing it.
I pose few questions to our MBA aspirants and to those raising voice against B-school mailers and admission prospectus.
- Do you know all about your prospective MBA Colleges? If yes, then why do you visit MBA Portals or search Google for your favorite B-schools placement reports.
- Do you know the name of all the top B-schools where you can apply with your Entrance marks? Try it; you cant count more than six. And if you know more, say thanks to Education websites and the B-school Admission mailers whom you hate.
- Will you travel to Bangalore and then to Mumbai and then Back to Delhi NCR to attend GDs and PIs of your favorite B-school? Now thats a cost your parent wouldnt approve of.

And my last question, which is the better B-school, X, Y or Z to take admission? Can you tell it without analyzing each aspect of each B-school?
The answer to all the above questions is internet or in a more simpler words, the answer to all the above questions lies in the pain to visit each B-schools website individually to get the official information or visit MBA portals to get updates. But, how can we do it? We dont get time besides group chat in WhatApp, Selfies on FB and yes, clearing stages in Candy Crush/Subway Surfer and Temple Run on our swanky Smartphones.
And it is this lack of information on B-school that many of you tend to cry and sulk soon after taking admission as you get to know that you have indeed choosen the wrong B-school for your MBA. A B-school with high fees but low salary, wide building but less students. A place of equality both 85%iler and 10 percentiler in CAT study together. Do you want to be the one! Do you want to be the one-eyed king amongst blind men?
This is where your hated Admission mailers, B-school catalogues, Prospectus come into picture to save your MBA career. Every B-school admission mailer seeking your name & other details, tell you about that college, its admission criteria, minimum cut-offs, location, legacy, etc. It all helps you to compare it with other B-schools and finally choose the best B-school for yourself based on your MBA Entrance exam percentiles, your financial conditions and preferred location.

MBA aspirants tend to shy away from providing their personal information in Admission mailers as they believe it as poking into their personal life or avoiding misuse of their details. Rather this will help them to connect with the admission department of their desired B-school. All the information they are seeking by visiting and searching anonymously on Google can be received by just a phone call and hey, you dont have to pay the bill too. Its an incoming call mate! You are saving your quality time and getting updated information direct form the source.

But no, you wont do that because you believe in keeping your hard-earned special (pun intended) Contact Number to yourself only to be shared to any unknown proxy female on Yahoo chat or Skype. Or its also good to share it with all the Facebook apps and games that you use (Yeah! you just did it when you clicked I accept) without knowing how and where they distribute their details.

The details that we saved have been distributed to people knowingly or unknowingly to so many people. But you shy away from sharing it for your own good. You run away for sharing it for the betterment of your career and to fulfill your long lived dream of worthy management career, swanky car and 6 digit salary.

So the next time you get a B-school Admission Mailer in the Promotion section of your Gmail account, wait and think twice before avoiding it. One step can change your life forever. Its up to you to believe if the glass is half Full or half Empty. Best of luck!
