XLRI Jamshedpur Academic Session 2018-19 Commences; New Batch of 543 students join the Institute

XLRI Jamshedpur has commenced academic session 2018-19 with 543 students including 181 students in PGDM-BM, 182 in PGDM-HRM and 105 students in PGDM (GM) programmes
Xavier School of Management (XLRI) Jamshedpur has announced the commencement of new academic session 2018-19 on June 11, 2018 with an inaugural prayer service function with a fresh batch strength of 543 students admitted in 2018 as against 537 students last year.
With a batch of total 543 students admitted to various two years, fifteen months, three years PGDM and FPM programmes, The new students were welcomed at a solemn, inaugural prayer service function at XLRI Campus in presence of all the current students, faculty and staff members. Thewelcome ceremonywas addressedbyFr. E. Abraham, S.J.,Director, Dr. Ashis K Pani,Dean- Academics and Fr. Jerry Cutinha, S.J, Dean- Administration & Finance at XLRI.

468 Students in 3 Flagship PGDM Programmes
Despite the overall increase in batch size to 543 in 2018-19 from 537 in 2017-18, the batch size of 3 full time regular PGDM programmes has gone down. Besides, the PGDM Programme preferences among the students have changed from last year. While the batch strength in 2 years full time PGDM programmes has remained almost same, the 15 months PGDM (GM) programme has seen a dip of 4 students. Executive Programmes: Batch Strength Goes Up
Key feature of 2018-19 Academic Session is the increase in batch size of other programmes to 75 students in 2018-19 from 66 students in 2017-18. Another fact is that the batch strength of Executive fellow programme has gone up to 20 students in 2018-19 from 6 students last year. Brief Analysis is shared below:

Special Orientation Programme for new students
The new students will be taken through a Special Orientation Programme drawn up by XLRI to update their knowledge before regular classes commence.
Village Exposure Programme: Must for 1st year students
The first year students will also be taken for XLRIs compulsory Village Exposure Programme and the Outbound Programme. Both the programmes have been specially designed for the students to create awareness about the realities rural India.
Welcoming the new batch of students,Fr. E. Abraham, S.J., Director, XLRIsaid,India is presently at a very challenging phase of its socio-economic transition. We are in the midst of geo-political changes that are both complex and unpredictable. In these times of Post-Trump, Post-Brexit and Post-Truth and high oil prices it seems nations, organizations, and educational institutions like ours and also all of us as individuals have to be prepared for any non-linear, macro socio-economic eventuality.
XLRI Jamshedpur Director further shared with the new batch about their social responsibilities and said XLRI, besides being a higher learning institution is also a social institution. We have to carry out our responsibilities as a social entity. A strong connection with the society will provide the edifice for value-oriented learning. This will instill in future business leaders like you all a sensitivity that will inspire you to search for solutions to vexed socio-economic problems in the environment in which we are living. The onus is on institutions like XLRI to produce men and women of substance and character, not merely competent professionals.
Fr. Abraham also advised the new students to start thinking about addressing socio-business challenges and pursue their entrepreneurial dreams while at XLRI.
Sharing with the students about the journey to achieve academic excellencethrough courses, activities, events and the environment,Dr. Ashis K Pani,Dean Academics, XLRIsaid, XLRI is known for its academic excellence as well as instilling in its students the right values through courses, activities, events and the environment it creates.
