MAT Exams

Management Aptitude Test (MAT) 2019 is the gateway to more than 600 MBA/PGDM colleges for 2019-21 batch. All India Management Association (AIMA) conducts Management Aptitude Test (MAT) four times in a year. The four MAT 2019 exams will be conducted in the months of February, May, September and December.


The first MAT exam for admission to MBA 2019-21 batch is scheduled in February 2019. The exam will be held both as paper based as well as computer based test. AIMA has started to conduct two paper based MAT exams and one computer based test in the same month. While the phase-1 paper based MAT is conducted separately, the phase-2 paper based MAT is conducted on the computer based MAT exam date. There were two paper based MAT exams conducted in 2018 also in the months of May, September and December.

Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a standardised test being administered since 1988 to facilitate B-Schools to screen candidates for admission to MBA and allied programmes. Govt. of India, Ministry of HRD approved MAT as a national level test in 2003. Any B-School - national or international - can consider MAT Score as the admission criteria based on its Score Cards issued to the candidates.


More than 600 institutes will offer MBA admission 2019 with MAT 2019 cut offs on the basis of MAT 2019 February, MAT May 2019 exam scores. The MAT September 2019 and MAT December 2019 exam scores will also lead to MBA 2020 admission.   


MAT Application Process 
The MAT 2019 exam application process for paper based test and computer based tests is online only.


AIMA has discontinued the offline application facility for MAT exam, so you have to apply for 2019 MAT exam online only  


MAT Exams in 2018
Four MAT exams were scheduled in the year 2018 for admission to MBA 2018-20 and for MBA 2019-21. The first Management Aptitude Test (MAT) in 2018 leading to admission MBA 2018-20 in more than 400 MBA colleges across the country was held on Sunday February 4 as paper based test and on February 17, 2018 as online computer based test.


The second Management Aptitude Test (MAT) in 2018 was held on Sunday May 6 and May 20, 2018 as paper based test and on May 20 in different time slots as online computer based test.


The third MAT 2018 September exam was also held in two phases. The phase-1 Paper based MAT was held on September 2 and phase-2 on September 15 alongwith the computer based MAT in different time slots. 


List of MAT 2019 score accepting MBA colleges
There are around 600 MBA/PGDM colleges who will accept MAT exam score for admission to 2019-21 batch. The updated list of Management Institutes who accept MAT exam scores for admission to their MBA programmes is available on as released by AIMA for each MAT exam. The list of MAT score accepting MBA colleges goes on changing from one MAT exam to another.


Facility to appear in Two PBT and CBT MAT 2019 exams
AIMA is to conduct two paper Based MAT and one computer based MAT in each testing month in 2019. Besides, Candidates can appear in both the paper based MAT exams as well as the computer based MAT exam with an additional payment of Rs.1100/- towards application fee.


Now a Candidate can opt for both the MAT 2019 tests i.e. PBT and CBT by paying an extra fees of Rs.1100/- in addition to Rs.1550/-.


A candidate can also choose to appear in phase-2 MAT 2019 paper based test by paying again Rs.1550/- towards application and registration fee, if he/she wants to improve his/her score.


MAT 2019 Admit card Download 
The admit card for paper based MAT 2019 exam will be available for download two weeks earlier than the Computer based test till exam day. For phase-2 paper based and computer based MAT 2019 the Admit card download will be available after a few days from the first paper based test.


All provisionally registered candidates for Paper Based Test and Computer Based Test can download their Admit Card from AIMA website on the scheduled dates for MAT 2019 Admit card Download.


Specific MAT Admit Card is generated both for the candidates opted for the Paper Based Test and for the Computer Based Test. Admit Card contains Candidate's Name, Form No, Roll No, Test Date, Test Time and Test Venue Address. Candidate has to strictly follow the date and time allotted to him/her in the case of Computer Based Test.


MAT Question paper composition & Scoring pattern
MAT 2019 test paper has a time duration of 2½ hours. There are 200 questions in MCQs form in MAT question paper of MAT 2019 exam. The exam is divided in 5 sections with 40 questions in each section.


MAT 2019 test sections are Language Comprehension, Mathematical skills, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning, Indian and Global Environment. Merit Score in MAT exam is calculated on the basis of 4 sections only and the score of Indian & Global Environment is separately shown but is not taken into account to calculate the merit or percentile in the MAT score card.

MAT syllabus at par with other MBA entrance exams
MAT exam Syllabus contains all the topics on which questions are asked in other MBA entrance exams. Past MAT question papers and the MAT exam pattern reveal that MAT syllabus does not throw tough questions in the MAT exam.


MAT Score Validity: One year
The MAT 2019 exam score will be valid for admission in academic session 2019-21. The list of MAT Colleges accepting MAT score is published by AIMA for each MAT exam separately. The best part of appearing in each MAT exam is that you can improve your score after every 3 months. Each MAT 2019 exam score is valid for 1 year. The best MAT exam score would be considered to get the merit position during admission process of the B-school. 


MAT 2019: Expect an Easy Question paper 
The MAT colleges cut offs in MBA admission are not very high although MAT question paper and MAT scoring pattern award liberal marks to MAT exam takers. The MAT colleges cut offs especially among top 20 MAT colleges like – BIMTECH, K J Somaiya, SIMSREE, IESMCRC, NDIM, Jaipuria, FIIB, FLAME among others are slightly higher as compared to other MBA colleges accepting MAT scores since the merit position in top 20 MAT colleges is based on little higher cut offs. 


The biggest advantage of taking MAT 2019 exam is that you are given the facility to choose and apply upto 5 Management Institutes accepting MAT exam scores for MBA admission 2019-21 without paying any additional fee. The choices can be filled up in the space given in the MAT 2019 registration form.
