Former IMT Ghaziabad Director Dr Vishal Talwar Appointed as Chief Operating Officer for Southampton University UK’s India Campus in Delhi NCR
Dr Vishal Talwar, who had recently stepped down from the role of Director of IMT Ghaziabad, has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Southampton University UK’s India Campus being set up in Delhi NCR. Southampton University UK, a leading research driven university, was issued a letter of intent to set up its India campus by UGC in 2024. Confirming the appointment, Dr Talwar told MBAUniverse.com, “I am delighted to join the University of Southampton Delhi at this exciting juncture. University of Southampton Delhi promises to be an enriched global learning experience for students.”
Talking about the new campus of University of Southampton in Delhi NCR, Dr Talwar added, “Set within a purpose-built, safe and technologically advanced campus in Gurgaon, it will have a strong focus on academic rigour, as well as holistic development. The Delhi NCR region provides a great platform for networking, industry engagement and career transformation. A carefully curated approach will provide our students with hands-on experience and real-world insights, thus enabling more robust career readiness.”
Dr Vishal Talwar Reconnects with UK
With this appointment, Dr Vishal Talwar has reconnected with the UK higher education system, where he was actively engaged for more than a decade – first as a research scholar and later as a faculty at leading British Universities.
Most recently, Dr Vishal Talwar was the Director at IMT Ghaziabad. Prior to this, Dr Talwar was Dean for the School of Management at the BML Munjal University. Earlier, Dr Vishal Talwar had also worked at the SP Jain School of Global Management.
Prior to associations with IMT and others in India, Dr Talwar was based in the UK for almost 12 years. Dr Talwar completed his doctoral studies from the Manchester Business School, UK where he was the Shell Doctoral Scholar from 2002 till 2007. Dr Talwar taught at the Henley Business School (University of Reading) where he received the Excellence in Teaching & Learning Award in 2014. He also worked at the Dept. of Management at the London School of Economics (LSE) and Manchester Metropolitan University.
Dr Talwar is a popular speaker on management education and was invited to speak at the 13th Indian Management Conclave 2023. He has also contributed many articles in the popular business press on management education.
Southampton University UK: Expanding Footprints
The University of Southampton is a public university in Southampton, England, and a founding member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities in the United Kingdom. Apart from many campuses in the UK, the university has an international branch in Malaysia offering courses in Engineering.
Last year, University of Southampton become the first UK university to be given a letter of intent in 2024 to set up an India campus by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Making the announcement, Professor Mark E. Smith, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton, had said: “In the 21st century, no university can be truly global without engaging with India. Our intention is to establish a campus that delivers social value and economic impact to India and the university by bringing together Southampton’s world class activities in education, research, and knowledge exchange and enterprise, with all the talent of the rising global power that is India.”
University of Southampton India campus will be situated in Gurugram in Delhi NCR. It will initially offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in management, finance and computer science.
