FT Global MBA Ranking 2022: IIM A,B,C fall 14-24 Ranks; ISB Ranked Global #1 on Salary Increase
In the recent released Financial Times (FT) Global MBA 2022 ranking, top Indian B-schools fell sharply from last year despite the fact that Indian School of Business (ISB) was ranked #1 in the World on salary increase of MBA graduates. ISB fell by 9 places to 32nd rank; IIM Bangalore fell by 18 places to rank at 53rd position down from last years 35th rank; IIM Ahmedabad declined by 14 places to 62nd rank globally while IIM Calcutta was ranked 68th, down by 24 places from last year
Top Indian B-schools fell sharply in the latest Financial Times (FT) Global MBA 2022 ranking even as Indian School of Business (ISB) was ranked #1 in the World on salary increase of MBA graduates. However, all Indian B-schools fell in their rankings from last year.
ISB which fell by nine places to 32nd rank was ranked No 1 amongst the four Indian B-schools ranked in the prestigious FT Global MBA ranking 2022. IIM Bangalore fell by 18 places to rank at 53rd position down from last year's 35th rank. IIM Ahmedabad declined by 14 places to 62nd rank globally while IIM Calcutta was ranked 68th, down by 24 places from last year. Refer Table 2 below.
Putting a spotlight on ISB, Financial Times said, “The biggest salary increases reported by students three years after completion compared with earnings before starting their MBAs were at the Indian School of Business, Fudan and Mexico’s Ipade Business School.”
It is important to note that FT Global MBA ranking 2022 have ranked only “post-experience MBA” programs, where prior work experience is the necessary admission criteria, and hence ranks 1 year MBA equivalent programs, like ISB’s PGP and IIMA’s PGPX, and not the flagship 2 year MBA/PGPM programs of IIMs.
US B-schools dominate Financial Times (FT) Global MBA 2022 Ranking
Elevated salaries for American MBA graduates helped US business schools to the top places in the FT’s 2022 ranking. Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia came first and second, respectively. Harvard Business School is ranked No 4 in the world. Other top US B-schools like Northwestern: Kellogg, Stanford, Chicago: Booth, Yale, MIT, NYU: Stern and Berkeley: Haas are all ranked among 16 schools in the top tier of the 100 ranked institutions.
Says Financial Times,“High salaries for American MBA graduates helped US business schools to the top places in the FT’s 2022 ranking after a year that brought strong demand for the degree amid the disruption of the pandemic.”
Outside US, INSEAD with campuses in France and Singapore, was ranked No 3. Others global B-schools outside US in the top tier include London Business School, IESE in Barcelona, HEC Paris, SDA Bocconi in Milan and China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai. Refer Table 1 below.
Harvard scored highest for research output, measured by staff publications in journals on the FT50 list, weighted by faculty size. It was followed by Wharton and Chicago: Booth.
This Financial Times MBA ranking features the world’s best 100 full-time MBA programmes. A total of 151 schools took part in the 2022 edition. All participating schools meet the FT’s entry criteria and are accredited by Equis or the AACSB.

Last year, Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton did not participate in the FT ranking. “Data gathering was disrupted last year by the pandemic, which led a number of US schools including Harvard, Stanford and Wharton to suspend participation,” Financial Times had said.

FT Global MBA Rankings 2022 Methodology
According to FT, their rankings are based on data provided by participating schools and alumni, with significant weightings given to salary and salary increase three years after completion, as well as factors including academic research output, and student and faculty diversity measured by gender mix and citizenship. Only those B-schools who are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) or Equis, the two leading international agencies, are allowed to participate in this prestigious global ranking.
The ranking has 20 criteria. Alumni responses inform eight criteria that together contribute 61 percent of its weight. Eleven criteria are calculated from school data, accounting for 29 percent of the ranking. KPMG audits a number of schools every year. The remaining criterion, the research rank, counts for 10 percent.
