5. IIM Shillong Eligibility Criteria 2024

  • IIM Shillong Eligibility criteria require that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration after class 12, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category, the eligibility criterion is relaxed to 45%
  • One of the most important points in IIM Shillong Admission Eligibility criteria is that apart from a recognized graduate degree, the candidate should appear in CAT 2023 exam and must score minimum prescribed sectional score to become eligible for admission
  • If the candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks in its academics, the equivalence to determine PGP admission eligibility would be based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where the bachelor's degree is obtained. In case the institution/university does not have any scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by IIM Shillong by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant by 100 to confirm the Admission eligibility of the candidate.
  • A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results is also eligible to apply for IIM Shillong Admission 2023. Such a candidate must produce a certificate from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university, certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year or is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category) based on latest available grades/marks.
  • IIM Shillong Eligibility further clarifies that such a candidate, if selected, will not be eligible for the IIM Shillong admission unless he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2024 from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university (issued on or before June 30, 2024) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the result may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
  • It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally considered eligible by IIM Shillong and offered admission, to submit the mark-sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination held on or before June 30, 2024.  The deadline to submit the mark-sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2024.

  • Stage-1: IIM Shillong Shortlisting for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI)
  • Stage-2: IIM Shillong Final Selection Criteria for Admission 2024

Let us understand in detail both the stages of IIM Shillong Admission Process 2024

Stage-1: IIM Shillong Shortlisting Criteria
IIM Shillong shortlists the candidates on the basis of CAT 2023 score, past academic performance, and other criteria as under:

  • The shortlisting for final selection round in IIM Shillong Admission Criteria require minimum 75 percentile in each of the three sections of CAT 2023 - Quantitative Aptitude' (QA), ‘Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning' (DILR) and ‘Verbal and Reading Comprehension' (VRC)
  • No Minimum Overall Percentile in CAT 2023 for shortlisting is prescribed
  • If the candidate does not score minimum sectional percentile in CAT 2023, he/she is not considered for shortlisting for final selection stage.
  • The candidate with excellent academics is awarded higher points in shortlisting criteria
  • As per the past trends Minimum 80% & Above marks in Class 10, 12 & Graduation are required to avail full weightage for shortlisting. However, it depends upon the number of candidates available for shortlisting category wise
  • All the Candidates shortlisted for GD & PI have to attend the final selection process, failing which they would not be considered for the final admission
  • The eligible candidates are segregated as per their academic disciplines in graduation as reported in CAT 2023. From each academic discipline a certain percentage of candidates are shortlisted for PI round as per the following formula: Number of candidates appeared for CAT -2023, Number of Academic disciplines, number of candidates present in the academic discipline
  • Category wise shortlist prepared for the eligible candidates in respective Categories include Differently Abled (DA); Scheduled Tribe (ST); Scheduled Caste (SC); General, EWS and OBC (OT)
  • Short-listed candidates are intimated through IIM Shillong website, e-mail (as provided in CAT-2023 Application form) and by SMS (on the mobile no. as provided in CAT-2023 application form.

Stage 1.1: Number of Candidates in IIM Shillong Shortlist
IIM Shillong shortlisting criteria for final selection round clarify that the number of candidates shortlisted for GD and PI are based on the overall performance of the candidates in CAT- 2023, number of seats available, buffer for possible overlap and attendance trends in the past. Number of candidates called for GD and PI are decided category wise and academic discipline wise.

  • There will be different cut-off scores for candidate’s performance in PI in different categories

10. IIM Shillong MBA Admission: Revision in Final Admission Process
IIM Shillong has revised its PGP admission policy.  Merit Listing for Admission Offer after the Admission process is based on the following process and components:

10.1 Academic Performance Score Calculation
Since there is a lack of uniformity in marking pattern of different boards, the Xth and XIIth overall percentage will be scaled to bring in possible uniformity in the following manner:

  • The average of highest percentage for a particular board, as appearing in the CAT data for last three years, would be used to compute a scaling factor.
  • The scaling factor would be computed for any given board, after equating the average highest percentage for all the boards.
  • For Class XII, the process would be done stream wise, that is, separately for Arts, Commerce, and Science streams.
  • The percentage of a candidate would then be divided by this scaling factor as applicable to her/his board.
  • Post this scaling, the scaled score will be normalized using the formula:
  • Performance ScoreExam = ScaledPercentage-Min (ScaledPercentage)
    Max(ScaledPercentage)-Min(ScaledPercentage)
  • Where Max (for maximum) and Min (for minimum) of Scaled marks are computed from those of all candidates appearing CAT 2023, and Exam stands for Xth or XIIth.
  • Finally, the Performance Score will be multiplied with the weightage for the corresponding examination (X th or XIIth) for computing Academic Performance Score

10.2 Calculation of Score for Work Experience
For computing the Work Experience score, a candidate will be awarded certain marks based on the months of experience post graduation. During the PI round, the panelists will evaluate the relevance and depth of the experience, and based on their assessment, the score as computed based on table below may be moderated using a multiplier

The process as illustrated below will be applied for admission 2024

With a total of m number of candidates appearing in the GD and PI process, an overall score, OSc for every appearing candidate c, will be calculated using the following formula, which will be used for preparing the merit list:

OSc=w1(Nc V) + w2(Nc W) +w3Nc x) + w4(Nc y) + w5(Nc z) c = 1, 2, 3, ..., m where.

Nc V : Normalized score based on experience of the candidate c

Nc x : Normalized score based on gender of the candidate c

Nc x : Normalized score of performance of the candidate c in Xth, and XIIth standard

w3 : Weights of performance of the candidate c in Xth and XIIth standard (Nc x )

w4 : Weight of performance of the candidate c in PI (Nc y)

w5 : Weight of performance of the candidate c in CAT 2022 (Nc z.

10.4 Ranking & Weightage of Components in Final Merit List
