Q: What sets the admissions process at SDA Bocconi Asia Center apart from other business schools?
A: At SDA Bocconi Asia Center, we focus on identifying candidates who not only have strong academic credentials but also demonstrate leadership potential, a global mindset, and a passion for personal growth. Unlike many schools, our admission process emphasises a holistic approach, considering a candidate’s academic background, work experience, extracurricular achievements, and personal qualities. We also value diverse perspectives, as they enrich the learning environment. This allows us to admit individuals who are well-rounded and ready to thrive in a dynamic, international setting. We support meritorious students with substantial financial support in terms of tuition waivers and scholarships.

Q: What are the types of Scholarships awarded at Bocconi? Do students really receive 80% tuition waivers?
A: Our scholarships, valued at INR 2 lakh each, fall into three categories.
1. Dean's Award: Given to students with high academic records throughout their education, including grades from 10th, 12th, and graduation.
2. Women and Leadership Award: Awarded to female candidates who have demonstrated leadership abilities in recent years.
3. Arts, Cultural, and Sports Award: Given to candidates with excellent achievements in these specific fields.
Tuition waivers are divided into three categories: 30%, 50%, and 80%. And yes, about 37% of students in our IMB batch received a scholarship or tuition waiver. Every year, we have supported exceptionally meritorious students with an 80% tuition waiver as well.

Q: How are tuition waivers allocated, and what factors are considered?
A: Tuition waivers are highly competitive, especially the 80% bracket. The factors considered are:

1. Academics: Grades from 10th, 12th, and graduation.
2. Work Experience: Having relevant work experience increases the chances.
3. Test Scores: Higher scores in CAT, NMAT, GMAT, GRE, or SDA Bocconi Test improve the chances.
4. Extracurricular Activities: Consistent involvement and achievements in extracurriculars are key.
5. Essays in the Application: Your answers with a statement of purpose is crucial.
6. Interview and Soft skills: The personal interview can significantly impact your selection chances and determine whether you receive a scholarship or tuition waiver. In interviews, we judge your technical skills, soft skills, attitude, and your potential to lead and grow.

Q: Can you tell us more about the IMB program at SDA Bocconi Asia Center?
A: The International Masters in Business (IMB) program has been running since 2012, making it over a decade now. At the Asia Center in Mumbai, we offer the IMB program, ideal for candidates with 0 to 5 years of work experience. The IMB program is taught by SDA Bocconi faculty, who fly to teach IMB students in Mumbai. All our students go for mandatory immersion term of 4 months at the SDA Bocconi School of Management's main campus in Italy. Along with the IMB program, we run our Executive master program for senior leaders, Custom programs with leading corporates like Larsen & Toubro, TATA Group, Adani, Welspun etc. We also host international immersion from Copenhagen Business School, Rotman Business School, and Bocconi’s Global MBA in Mumbai. Our IMB students get significant international exposure in Mumbai itself.

Q: What is your take on the increasing cost of MBAs in India and the relative ROI of a B-School?
A: When discussing the cost of MBAs in India, it’s crucial to look beyond the numbers and examine the value of the investment. Unlike many other B-schools, SDA Bocconi Asia Center has chosen not to increase its tuition fee. This decision reflects our commitment to making quality education accessible while maintaining the highest standards.

Our faculty is a cornerstone of this value. Every Bocconi faculty member holds a Ph.D. and brings academic expertise and substantial international professional experience. This ensures our students receive an education that’s both high-quality and globally relevant. If someone is truly ready to invest in their learning and future, Bocconi is undoubtedly the place to be.

Many in India view ROI very transactionally, seeking immediate financial returns post-MBA. However, at Bocconi, we emphasize long-term growth and development. Even so, if you look at our average fee post tuition waivers and our average salary at placement, you can get your ROI. Nevertheless, we look more at the long term, and a survey we conducted three years ago revealed that our alumni, previously placed at an average salary of INR 11 lakhs per annum, already earned an average of 17 lakhs within just one year of graduation. This growth underscores not only the calibre of our alumni but also the lasting impact of the education they receive here.

Moreover, our alumni frequently find themselves on international assignments or relocations. We have alumni thriving in global markets, including France, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, England, Prague, Dubai, the USA, and Canada. This further amplifies the global reach and long-term value of a Bocconi education. It’s not just about the first job post-MBA; it’s about the trajectory your career takes thereafter.

Q: Please share your advice for candidates looking to join a business school this year? What parameters should be considered?
A: Absolutely! Choosing the right business school is a significant decision, and there are several key parameters you should consider to ensure the best fit for your aspirations:

1. Program Structure and Curriculum: Look at the program’s curriculum and how well it aligns with your career goals. Does the school offer the specializations or electives that interest you?
2. Faculty Expertise: Check the faculty members' qualifications, professional experience, and research contributions. A strong faculty with international exposure can provide valuable insights and a global perspective.
3. Reputation and Rankings: Global rankings and accreditations provide a general sense of a school’s reputation. Bocconi is among the top 1% of the business schools worldwide with triple crown accreditation. Additionally, look at alumni success stories, placement statistics, and industry connections to gauge the school’s standing in the business world.
4. Global Exposure and Network: Business is increasingly global, so it’s beneficial to choose a school that offers international exposure, whether through exchange programs, global immersion, or diverse faculty and peer groups. The network you build during your B-School can be invaluable throughout your career.
5. Culture and Fit: Lastly, consider the school's culture. Attend webinars, connect with current students or alumni, and get a feel for the environment. A school where you feel comfortable and supported can enhance your learning journey.

Overall, take the time to research thoroughly and align your choice with your long-term career objectives and personal growth aspirations. Each business school has unique strengths, so finding the one that resonates with your goals is key.
