In their famous Harvard Business Review 2012 article titled “Data Scientist: The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century”, Harvard Business School Professor Thomas H. Davenport (alongwith D.J. Patil) wrote, “Data scientists are the key to realizing the opportunities presented by big data. They bring structure to it, find compelling patterns in it, and advise executives on the implications for products, processes, and decisions. They find the story buried in the data and communicate it.”
Leading consulting companies like McKinsey too have hailed Business Analytics to be one of hottest functions of 21st century. Market Research Future (MRFR) predicts the global data analytics market size to reach USD 132.90 Billion at a 28.9% CAGR (2016 to 2026). Global data analytics market leaders are leading global companies like IBM Corporation, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Amazon Web Services, Tableau Software, SiSense Inc, Zoho Corporation, ThoughtSpot, Mu Sigma…Notice that Indian companies like Zoho and Mu Sigma are being counted amongst top global firms in this sector. All large businesses have set up teams to leverage data for business decision making.
With this backdrop, let’s review the JAGSoM and its PGDM Business Analytics program.

Why are Specialized PGDM relevant?
Before we talk about Business Analytics domain, let us know how are specialized PGDM programs different from general MBA/PGDM programs and who should consider them?
Responding to this query, Dr Atish Chattopadhyay, Director, JAGSoM said, “For the first job after MBA or PGDM, specialised knowledge and technical skills are very important. Technical skills play a significant role in the initial years of one’s career. Most of the initial employment is based on specialised skills as recruiters look for domain specialists.” He added, “In this context, a Specialised Masters (or specialised masters in management) is probably more suited for a fresher. The areas in which a Specialised Masters can be of value are Marketing, Analytics, Finance and Banking, Supply Chain Management etc.”
Dr Chattopadhyay was the Director of IMT Ghaziabad and part of the leadership team at leading B-schools SPJIMR Mumbai and MICA Ahmedabad before joining JAGSoM as its Director in May 2018.
