The fourteenth edition of India’s iconic management education conference is now just a few weeks away! XLRI and MBAUniverse.com are organizing the 14th edition of INDIAN MANAGEMENT CONCLAVE (IMC) 2024 on September 20-21, 2024 at XLRI Jamshedpur campus. IMC 2024 will see a confluence of distinguished speakers who are top Business Leaders and CXOs, Directors and Academic Leaders, Journal Editors, Researchers and more. This first article in the series outlines the Conclave Theme 2024 and Speakers from the industry. Manish Sabharwal, Thought-leader & Vice-Chairman of TeamLease, to deliver Keynote Address

Regarded as India’s leading thinkers on critical issues like education, employability and job creation, Mr Manish Sabharwal will be delivering the Keynote Address at IMC 2024. Drawing from his rich experience as a highly successful entrepreneur, and policy advisor to leading institutions such as Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and NCAER, Mr Sabharwal will be speaking on the topic of ‘Future of Business & Work in India’.

Mr Sabharwal is the Vice-Chairman of TeamLease Services, one of India’s leading staffing and human capital firm. He is also a Governing Board Member of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), member of National Skill Mission, Central Advisory Board of Education and has served on various policy committees for education, employment and employability. He has served as an Independent Director on the Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and is a Member of Advisory Board of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). He is an alumnus of Wharton School and SRCC, Delhi.

IMC Theme “Identifying Contemporary MBA Roles & Competencies”

At 13th IMC 2023, held at SPJIMR Mumbai, a new multi-year theme, focused on ‘Business Value Creation in the Age of Disruption: Lessons for Management Education’, was initiated. Taking the discussion forward, the theme for 14th IMC 2024 is ‘Identifying Contemporary Roles & Competencies for Reshaping MBA Program’.

The theme aims to identify contemporary in-demand roles being offered to fresh MBA graduates by large MBA recruiting sectors such as Business Process and Financial Services Consulting Firms, IT/ITES companies and Indian Global Capability Centres of large international companies, and Banking & Financial Services sector. A big trend being observed in the recent MBA placement seasons was that large number of companies seek to hire MBA graduates directly for specific roles with little training. These MBAs are expected to possess specific role-based competencies and skills.

CXOs from ITC, UBER, Axis Bank, Xiaomi to address Conclave theme

To understand the changing requirements of the industry, experts from Banking, Digital Platforms, FMCG will discuss the Conclave theme. Business leaders who have confirmed to speak at IMC 2024 include CXOs from ITC, UBER, Axis Bank, and Xiaomi. Let’s know more about these distinguished speakers.

Mr Hemant Malik, Executive Director, ITC Limited
Mr Hemant Malik was appointed as a Wholetime Director on the Board of ITC in August, 2023. He is also the Divisional Chief Executive of the Foods Business Division of the Company. Prior to becoming the Divisional Chief Executive of the Foods Business Division in October 2016, Malik was the Chief Executive of the Trade Marketing & Distribution ('TM&D') Vertical. Mr Malik is an alumnus of IIM Calcutta.

Mr Prabjeet Singh, President, Uber India & South Asia
Mr Prabhjeet Singh is the President of Uber and is responsible for leading its

Mobility business in three countries: India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. His unique style of building and leading has allowed him to adapt Uber’s global business model to India, launch multiple new cities and lead several India-first innovations, including scaling up Auto and Moto categories. He joined Uber in August 2015 from McKinsey and Co. Mr Singh is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Ahmedabad.

Mr Muralikrishnan B, President, Xiaomi India
Mr Muralikrishnan is a Consumer Internet and e-Commerce expert with a flair for Strategy, Operations & Product Management. He has 25 years of cross-functional experience across FMCG and Consumer Internet domains. Currently, he is the President of Xiaomi India, where he was the Chief Operating Officer earlier. Mr Muralikrishnan completed his MBA from IIM Calcutta, and also holds an Engineering degree.

Ms Rajkamal Vempati, Head Human Resources, Axis Bank
Ms. Rajkamal Vempati is the Head of Human Resources at Axis Bank, one of India’s largest private sector banks. In a career spanning more than 22 years, she has donned various hats successfully and carved a niche for herself in the industry.  Having started her career in HR as a Consultant with Hewitt Associates, she went on to be a part of the Global HR Leadership Program at GE Capital. Prior to Axis Bank she was heading Human Resources for ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited. Ms. Rajkamal Vempati is an alumnus of XLRI Jamshedpur.

Top Consultants from Deloitte, KPMG, PwC to address
In addition to top business leaders, IMC 2024 will host talks by some of the leading consultants. Following speakers will be addressing the panel on topic of ‘MBA Roles & Competencies for IT & Business Processes Consulting Sector’:

IMC Research Conference

To catalyse impactful research in the realm of business and management education, IMC International Research Conference (IMC-IRC) 2024 is being organized as part of IMC 2024. Original manuscripts were invited on the theme of ‘Advancing Management Education’ for six different tracks. With more than 125 abstract submissions in just 30 days from the announcement, IMC-IRC received a very positive response from the academic and research community.

Authors from following institutions will be presenting their papers (Partial List): IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow, XLRI Jamshedpur, Tata Steel Ltd, S P Jain Institute of Management & Research, IIM Rohtak, IIM Trichy, NMIMS University, Institute of Rural Management Anand, Great Lakes Institute of Management, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Sirmaur, Symbiosis Institute of Business Management.

IMC Awards 2024

IMC Award for Excellence in Management Education, popularly known as IMC Awards, is a key highlight of the Conclave. IMC Awards are recognized as India’s most prestigious awards in management education. No registration or participation fee is charged. IMC Awards 2022 were presented by Hon’ble Former President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind on December 10, 2022 at IIM Kozhikode.

For IMC Awards 2024, more than thirty leading B-schools have registered to submit their Nominations on the award theme: Identifying Contemporary MBA Roles & Competencies: Initiatives by B-schools & Faculty. These institutions represent all leading centres of management education including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Chennai. Awards 2024 will be judged by India’s leading management educators and subject experts.

A key highlight of IMC Conclave is a power packed IMC Leader’s Roundtable where Directors from many IIMs, XLRI, MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR Mumbai, and a few other select institutions, will address the implications of changing Industry requirements on management education.

IMC 2024, part of Platinum Jubilee of XLRI Jamshedpur

In May 2024, XLRI Director Fr S George, S J, had announced that XLRI will host the 14th IMC 2024 on September 20-21 at XLRI Jamshedpur. Welcoming the IMC to XLRI, Director Fr George said, XLRI is delighted to partner and host the 14th edition of Indian Management Conclave at XLRI Jamshedpur campus as part of our 75th Year Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. XLRI Xavier School of Management (formerly Xavier Labour Relations Institute) was founded in 1949 in the steel city of Jamshedpur as the oldest business school in India.
