A Recap: NMIMS Vice Chancellor Share Key Details on NMIMS Competency Test in MBAUniverse.com Interview 

Here are the key details that Dr Bhat has shared on January 24. 

1. What is NMIMS Competency Assessment Test? 
NMIMS has introduced a new component “Competency Assessment” for its MBA Admission 2025 process. It has a weightage of 50 per cent. NMIMS Competency Assessment Test has replaced “WATSON”, and WAT tests which were held last year. 

As shared by NMIMS Vice Chancellor in MBAUniverse.com interview, NMIMS Competency Assessment is the second-stage assessment that focuses on evaluating competencies and abilities. When candidates come to attend the personal interview, this test will be conducted before PI at the NMIMS Mumbai Campus. 

“NMIMS Competency Assessment test will be a multiple-choice type, assessing candidates' critical and analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and managerial skills. The key components of the assessment will concentrate on three sections: (a) managerial ability, (b) cognitive ability to test assumptions and problem-solving, and (c) critical thinking and prioritising ideas,” Dr Ramesh Bhat told us. 
He also shared that “shuffling within each section will be permitted, and navigation between sections will also be allowed.” 

2. What is the duration of NMIMS Competency Assessment Test? 
Social media was abuzz that this assessment will take 5 hours to complete, making candidates nervous. Dr Bhat has clarified that while candidates should budget 4-5 hours, the actual NMIMS Competency Assessment Test duration is only 45 minutes. 

Clarifying this doubt, Dr Bhat said, “For the PI process, each batch comprises 10-12 candidates. After the competency assessment, the candidates proceed to their PI process. For each candidate, the competency assessment and PI duration are approximately 45 minutes and 30 minutes, respectively. By the time the last candidate in the group completes their PI, it will take approximately five hours of time. This instruction ensures that candidates plan their return journey after accounting for the time needed for the competency assessment and PI of the last candidate in the group. 

3. What Skills does NMIMS Competency Test Measure? 
Students have expressed their concern about the need for an additional test after NMAT exam. To understand the rationale, candidates must appreciate the changing industry requirements from MBA pass outs and the reasons for poor MBA employability. 

While the entrance tests like CAT, XAT or NMAT measure the “cognitive abilities” of a candidate well, industry expects MBAs to have strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, broadly called as “behavioural managerial competencies”. 

NMIMS Competency Assessment Test shall measure these competencies with a new section titled “managerial ability”.  Personal Interview shall assess candidate’s overall personality. 

4. Why NMIMS Competency Test has 50% weightage, and NMAT just 20%? 
Sharing the reasons for this change Dr Bhat said, “the competency ability assessment at the second stage shows the candidate's fit for management programs, while the first stage tests assess the candidate's general aptitude. While the first stage shortlists candidates based on their general aptitude, the second stage assessments, focus on assessing other key parameters that evaluate the candidate’s suitability for the MBA program.” He further added, “The selection process for management programs globally is typically a two-stage affair where the weights in the second stage are relatively higher. For example, post-CAT, the IIMs also practice assigning a lower weightage to the Common Admission Test in their final selection process, with the weightage being as low as 30% in some cases.”

5. NMIMS Competency Assessment Mock Test Release Date 
Appreciating student’s concerns and to make them more comfortable with Competency Assessment, NMIMS will be releasing NMIMS Competency Assessment Mock Test. The test will be similar to that actual test and will have MCQ questions on following sections: 
(a) managerial ability, 
(b) cognitive ability to test assumptions and problem-solving, and 
(c) critical thinking and prioritising ideas. 

Here are key details on NMIMS Competency Assessment Mock Test:

• NMIMS Competency Assessment Mock Test release date is January 28th, 2025 (Tuesday). 
• NMIMS Competency Assessment Mock Test will be available to only candidates who have successfully registered and completed fee payment by January 25. 
• After login, NMIMS Candidate Dashboard will display a link to the mock test on the due date. Candidate can take the test on January 28th

6. NMIMS Competency Test Process Video
To providing a comprehensive explanation of the overall process and details of the competency test, NMIMS will able be releasing a video. This video will explain students all the details about the test, how to take it and type of questions.

7. NMIMS Artificial Intelligence (AI) Assisted Personal Interview 
Speaking with MBAUniverse.com, Dr Ramesh Bhat, VC, NMIMS has further revealed that NMIMS will leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) assisted Personal Interview process. To facilitate faster and more incisive assessment of candidates appearing in the NMIMS final admission round, NMIMS has introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI) Assisted Personal Interview process. This is perhaps the first time such an initiative has been taken by an Indian B-School on a large scale. 

Here are key details on NMIMS AI Assisted Personal Interview:

• NMIMS Personal Interview for Admission 2025 will be conducted through Artificial Intelligence (AI) Assisted Process. 
• AI-assisted personal Interview Video demonstrating the AI-assisted interview process will be released on January 28th, 2025 (Tuesday). 
• This be available to only candidates who have successfully registered and completed fee payment. 
• After login, NMIMS Candidate Dashboard will display a link to the video. 

A welcome video, offering an introductory overview of NMIMS University, School of Business Management and Admission 2025 process will also be released to the candidates on January 28th.

Confirming these details, Dr Ramesh Bhat told MBAUniverse.com, “I am happy to share that candidates will soon be provided with further information about the competency test and the mock.” 

He further added, “NMIMS Candidate dashboard will include four key elements: Competency Assessment Mock Test, Welcome Video, Competency Test Process Video and AI-assisted personal Interview Video demonstrating the AI-assisted interview process."
