XAT Breaks Previous Records! 142,235 Candidates Register for XAT 2025; Check Complete Details, Historical Trends
Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), India’s second largest MBA entrance exam after CAT, has witnessed a creditable increase in registrations this year. XAT 2025 registrations have hit an all-time high of 142,235 applications! What makes this increase impressive is that it follows a massive 38% increase in XAT 2024 registrations last year. Read why XAT 2025 registrations have grown, and complete historical trends.
142,235 Candidates Register for XAT 2025
As said, XAT 2025 registrations have hit an all-time high of 142,235 applications. Last year, 135,000 candidates had registered for XAT 2024. So, XAT 2025 registrations have grown by about 5%. While this growth is modest, it should be seen in historical context, which we will come to in a minute.
Confirming the XAT 2025 registration number, Prof. Rahul Shukla, Convenor of XAT, said, “We’ve worked tirelessly to communicate the value of XAT. This record-breaking number of 142,235 registrations is a testament to the trust and confidence candidates place in us.”
XAT Historical Trends: XAT 2025 growth comes after massive growth in previous years
While in absolute terms, XAT 2025 registrations grew by a modest 5%, what makes this increase impressive is that it follows a massive increase previous year’s registration. Last year XAT 2024 registrations broke all records by registering an increase of almost 40 percent! XAT 2024 registrations went up to 135,000, from 98,242 registrations in XAT 2023. Check Table below.

Another factor that should be considered while reading these numbers is that CAT 2024 registration numbers were flat this year. A total of 3.29 lakh MBA aspirants had registered for CAT 2024. These numbers are marginally lower than registration for CAT 2023, which stood at 3.30 lakhs.
Reasons for Growth in XAT Numbers
While XAT was always a popular test with serious MBA aspirants who were eyeing XLRI Jamshedpur, the real reason for massive growth in XAT registration in recent years is that XLRI has managed to reposition XAT as a strong second option after CAT exam.
The increase in registration numbers can attributed to following factors:
- Repositioning XAT as a “Smart Exam”, not a “Tough Exam”
- Strategic Outreach Campaign
- Increase in total number of XAT accepting MBA Colleges from about 170 to 250 colleges in just a year.
- Significant increase in total number of XAT exam centers
Speaking about this achievement, Prof. Rahul Shukla said, “XAT has always stood for inclusivity and diversity…We’ve worked tirelessly to communicate the value of XAT. This record-breaking number of 142,235 registrations is a testament to the trust and confidence candidates place in us.”
