To know about his future vision for IIFT, proposed changes in the IIFT 2018 and IIFT 2019 exam pattern, USPs of Kakinada campus, MBAUniverse.com has recently interviewed Prof Manoj Pant. The excerpts of the Interview are shared below:

MBAUniverse: IIMs have announced their CAT 2018 exam date, when is IIFT 2018 exam proposed to be held?

Prof Pant: The exam date for IIFT 2018 is December 2.

MBAUniverse: IIFT MBA entrance exam over the years has remained a paper based test.  Will the IIFT 2018 also remain a paper based test or it will switch over to Online Computer Based Test?

Prof Pant: The logistics of a paper based test and an online computer based test are completely different. As the number of applicants has increased over the years from around 40,000 to now over 60,000, we are contemplating to switch to an online test.  However, we are still investigating the logistical issues and the switch may be possible in 2019.

MBAUniverse: IIFT has launched a new campus at Kakinada at the time when many B-schools are struggling for their survival. What need was felt to launch Kakinada campus?

Prof Pant: So far the IIFT catchment area has been the East, North and Central India.  When the Kakinada campus comes up, it is hoped that we will be able to extend to the southern part of the country.  We will ensure that in expansion, the brand name of IIFT will not decline, so that we will never be struggling like other small business schools.

MBAUniverse: You have recently taken over as the Director of IIFT.  How has been the journey so far?

Prof Pant: IIFT is a well-established institution of long standing.  Hence, most of the systems are in place for managing the Institution.  It is also closely linked with Ministry of Commerce which provides useful oversight on some of our functions.  Hence, my journey here as Director has been more or less smooth sailing.

MBAUniverse: Please share your vision and future priorities as the Director of this top rated B School.

Prof Pant: As you are aware unlike most other management institutions, IIFT is also a highly ranked deemed to be university.  The vision for IIFT is to establish it as a major Centre for policy oriented research both for Government and private sector.  In addition, while the management programme is well known as one of the top ranked programmes in India, we have recently added a Masters Economics Programme which shares strong synergies with the management programme.  Hence becoming a top rated research and educational institution is both a vision and a priority.
