Curriculum Highlights

IIM Kashipur PhD programme consists of three stages – Coursework, Comprehensive Exam and Viva Voce, Thesis Work. Candidates are expected to submit their thesis in around four and a half years’ period from the date of initial registration. The maximum time allowed for completion of successful PhD thesis defense is six years from the date of initial registration

Upon joining the programme, scholars will go through coursework in 6 terms spread across 2 academic years. The course curriculum is an important and integral part of a PhD student’s learning process. Coursework for all nine areas has been recommended under the guidance of experienced and learned academicians. The recommended course structure provides inputs related to the foundations of management research, understanding and use of different methodologies, discipline related theory and research, advanced electives, research from allied areas (to motivate interdisciplinary research), academic writing, teaching training modules and workshops. While a basic structure has been proposed each area has also been given the flexibility to recommend courses relevant to their requirements. 

PhD Scholars can pursue their doctoral programme in following areas - Business Communication, Economics, Finance and Accounting, Information Technology and Systems, Marketing, Operations Management and Decision Sciences, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, Public Policy, Strategy

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates for the IIM Kashipur PhD program admission must have following qualifications obtained from any of the recognized universities. 

  • A Master's degree or equivalent in any discipline with at least 60% marks; OR Five years integrated Master’s Degree Programme in any discipline with at least 60% marks, obtained after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent; Or A professional qualification duly recognized by UGC/AICTE/AIU equivalent to Master’s degree (like CA, CMA, CS) with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade point average; OR 4 years/8-semester Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech. /B. Arch. etc.) with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade point average.
  • Work experience in industry or academics (in reputed organizations), though not mandatory, will be given due credit in the selection process. The work experience as full-time executives/government officials/NGOs or as management teachers in an organization/institution of repute is only considered as a valid experience.
  • Those who are appearing for their final year examination in the current academic year may also apply.

Admission Process

Application Status: Closed

Candidates need to apply online for PhD admission with requisite application fees

  • The candidates satisfying the academic eligibility criteria should submit their application online. 
  • Candidates require a standard test score, from any one of the acceptable tests for the area(s) of specialization they are applying to
  • Applicants to take Common Admission Test (CAT) or depending on chosen specializations, alternative test scores in lieu of the CAT score 
  • Based on the applications received, candidates satisfying the Academic eligibility criteria and acceptable standard test score, the shortlisting will be done by the respective Areas. The candidates will be shortlisted (on the recommendation of the respective areas) based on the information provided in the application form. 
  • Three high quality research papers will be provided to all shortlisted Ph.D interview applicants in an area and each of shortlisted applicants can choose one paper of their preference from the list of three papers provided to all of them in the concerned area. The applicants will be asked questions by the interview panel members about their research inclinations and aptitude from their preferred paper, as will be identified by them in the interview.
  • Candidates will be called for the Personal Interview (PI) which will be conducted at IIM Kashipur (online/offline). PI determines the academic preparation of the candidate for the specific area he/she has applied. An applicant can apply at most to two different areas of specialization.
  • IIM Kashipur also expects a consistent and minimum performance under different parameters of Personal Interview (PI), which will be decided by the Admissions Committee. Candidates not meeting the minimum performance in any of the PI parameters will not be considered for the next stage of the selection process.
  • Final selection will be based on the requirements of the academic area to which the candidate has applied and an area-wise offer list that will be prepared by the Areas only.

Step-2: Click on New User Sign-Up to register yourself and enter the details.
Step-3: Check for the activation email on your registered email for the activation. 
Step-4: Click on the activation link to activate your account to fill the form
Step-5: Pay following Application Fees through Debit/Credit Card or Internet Banking/ or UPI. The application fee is Non-Refundable

Required Documents
