Program Highlight

The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), approved by AICTE, is a doctoral-level programme of SPJIMR designed to create world-class researchers and faculty in various management disciplines. Full FPM Full-Time at SPJIMR is a fully-funded residential programme. Every scholar admitted to the full-time programme receives a stipend for the first four years of the programme.

FPM encourages rigorous interdisciplinary research in contemporary areas of management and focuses on relevant and contextual research to address current business issues and aims to create knowledge that helps shape the world for a better future. The programme envisages itself developing independent top-quality management thinkers, thought leaders and consultants making contributions to the domain of management.

The programme can be pursued in full-time and part-time mode depending on the flexibility and requirements of the candidate. It offers equal opportunities to individuals with a passion for research and learning who wish to expand their research skills and working professionals from the corporate world who wish to gain indepth understanding of research methods and understand its practical application to address the contemporary challenges of today’s dynamic business environment.

Scholarship
Every participant admitted as a full-time scholar receives a stipend for the first four years of the programme as below:
During the coursework phase: INR 40,000 per month
Post-clearing the qualifying exam: INR 42,000 per month
Post successful defence of proposal: INR 45,000 per month.
Contingency grants are also offered to the full-time participant to access the necessary equipment and facilities for research. The amount is reimbursed after verification of the submitted bills.

  • Every full-time participant is eligible for a contingency grant of INR 25,000 per year for the first four years of the programme to cover research expenses such as the purchase of software, books, stationeries, hardware
  • One-time claim of up to INR 40,000 towards the laptop purchase during the first four years of the programme. 
  • Upon completion of the comprehensive qualifying exam, FPM scholars are entitled to reimburse domestic & international conferences subject to a ceiling of INR 2,30,000 during the entire period of the programme.

Curriculum Highlights

The curriculum, designed as per international standards, offers an optimum mix of research methods and domain-specific courses. Scholars are encouraged to pursue research questions that solve industry and society problems. FPM curriculum is designed in collaboration with experts from leading international business schools with a high focus on contemporary methods and enhancing domain knowledge. The coursework in the FPM programme is in line with the top schools offering PhD in Management in India and internationally. The programme’s rigorous curriculum provides ample training for an academic career and enables participants to make exemplary intellectual contributions in their respective field of research.

The programme structure is designed to develop academic researchers and thought leaders of the highest global standards who are keen to address real-life business problems through their research. The overall length of the programme is ideally between four and five years. The programme phases include:
•    Years 1 & 2: Essential coursework for the qualifying exam
•    Years 2 & 3: Teaching immersion or Case study writing
•    Years 2, 3 & 4: Guide Allocation process and Doctoral thesis that includes proposal submission, defence and registration. Progress review, pre-synopsis, synopsis and thesis submission.

Eligibility Criteria

  • First-class Master’s degree, or an integrated first-class Master’s degree in any discipline, or professional qualifications such as CA, ICWA, or CS, with a minimum of 60% marks.
  • Candidates without work experience can apply if they have the motivation and background to pursue a rigorous research programme.
  • Candidates with significant work experience (over ten years) are also welcome as long as they have the motivation and background to pursue a rigorous research programme.

  • The process begins with reviewing the application forms and Research Proposal.
  • The shortlisting panel considers academic qualifications, work experience, profile, motivation, recommendations and fit with the institute’s research profile and its mission.
  • The shortlisted applicants go through a two-stage interview process – Research Aptitude Test (RAT) and Personal Interviews.
  • The Research Aptitude Test consists of two parts – General Aptitude and Research Aptitude.
  • SPJIMR panel conducts the Personal Interviews.
  • Provisional admission letters are issued to the selected candidates.

How to Apply

Eligible candidates should apply online. Following details should be submitted with the application form:

  • Academic grades for class X, XII, Graduate and Postgraduate Degree.
  • A Statement of Purpose (SOP) stating the motivation to pursue the programme.
  • An indication and elaboration of Research interests (Research Proposal).
  • Three letters of recommendation, including at least one academic recommendation.
  • The application processing fee of INR 1000 is to be paid through credit card/debit card or net banking. This application fee is non-refundable.
  • You need to mention your choice for area of specialisation with a reason for selecting the same. You are allowed to select two areas of specialisation in your application form.
